West Michigan Cancer Center (WMCC), Radiation and Surgical Specialties is seeking a Surgical Oncologist to practice high quality, innovative medicine. We are a community cancer subspecialty center with an academic appointment at Western Michigan Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine. The Division of Surgical Oncology is recruiting a full-time Surgical Oncologist to add to our team. The position is 0.8 clinical and 0.2 teaching/administrative. The ideal candidate will possess an interest in the clinical management of esophageal, upper GI and HPB malignancies. An interest in clinical research and education of students and residents will also be an important component of this position.
WMCC is owned by the two large community hospitals in Kalamazoo, Bronson Methodist Hospital and Ascension Borgess Hospital. The surgeons in our group provide surgery and inpatient care at these hospitals. They are located each within a 5 minute drive of WMCC. We see a broad and intellectually interesting variety of pathology, as we serve both suburban and rural communities.
WMCC is a multispecialty group that consists of five Radiation Oncologists, two Gynecologic Oncologists, one Gynecologic Surgeon, and two Surgical Oncologists. In addition to these physicians we have four Advanced Practice Providers. The Radiation Oncology group at WMCC provides innovative, curative, and palliative radiation to our patients including in-house HDR for locally advanced cervical cancer, SBRT, and IMRT. The Gynecologic Oncology group has the potential to manage chemotherapy at the two hospital-based infusion rooms in Kalamazoo. WMCC is part of the NCORP involving the west side of Michigan to be able to provide our patients with access to clinical trials.
WMCC has a strong partnership with Western Michigan University School of Medicine, with teaching and resident and student mentorship at the forefront of our service. There is a resident on service at all times and the Surgical Oncologists has a faculty position at the medical school. We host a multidisciplinary tumor board conference with community and resident involvement.
Kalamazoo and Portage metro area has a population of 261,000. It is a college town with opportunities to find any social niche you may be interested in. We are a two hour drive from Chicago and Detroit, and 45 minute drive from beautiful Lake Michigan. Kalamazoo houses Western Michigan University and Kalamazoo College. It is the headquarters of Stryker and Pfizer which have stimulated the local economy immensely.
WMCC is a patient-centered practice. We strive to provide high quality care, a positive work environment, and work-life balance. We are busy, but have the administrative support to be efficient and allow for high quality of life for our team members. Salary will be competitive, based on private practice scales with consideration of experience. Applicants must have completed a residency and Surgical Oncology fellowship.
