Sherman Counseling is one of Wisconsin's leading counseling centers. Our experienced team of professionals offers a wide variety of comprehensive outpatient resources including cognitive behavioral therapy, marriage and family counseling, Brainspotting therapy, psychotherapy, group therapy; and individual counseling for children, teens, adults and seniors.
As a Psychiatrist, you will treat a wide variety of mental health conditions that reflect the needs of our diverse patient population. You will be responsible for assessing, diagnosing, treating, and prescribing medications for behavioral health and psychological disorders. This is an outpatient clinical environment where you will interact directly with patients.
This is a 1.0 FTE position (28 billable / 40 total hours per week) that offers the ability to flex your schedule to meet your needs and the needs of the client. The position is based out of our center at W6152 Aerotech Drive in Appleton, WI and may include supporting and/or working at other local centers. Candidates must reside within commuting distance of Appleton, WI. Opportunities to occasionally work from home doing telehealth sessions may be considered. This is a salaried position with quarterly bonus potential after six months of employment.
Primary Responsibilities:
Perform acute and long-term psychiatric care, including:
- Assessments, diagnoses, treatment, and management of mental health conditions
- Communicating condition information
- Preventative care
- Understanding patient medical history, current mental health status, serious mental illness symptoms, behavioral disorders, chronic disease, substance abuse, and other factors impacting mental health
- Creating and updating treatment plans
- Clinical documentation
- Medication management
- Medication administration
- Patient monitoring
- Psychotherapy
- Crisis intervention
- Promoting mental health awareness
- Educating patient and families
- Collaborating with healthcare professionals
- Ordering and interpreting lab tests and diagnostic testing
- Making referrals
- Supervision, if applicable

Required Qualifications:
- M.D. (Doctor of Medicine) or D.O. (Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine)
- Active, unrestricted Psychiatrist license in the state of Wisconsin
- Active Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) license for prescribing controlled substances
- Board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) or ability to obtain within 90 days
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Eligible to enroll in the Medicare program as a provider or able to terminate opt-out (if applicable)
- Reside within commuting distance of Appleton, WI
- Willing and able to work on-site at W6152 Aerotech Drive in Appleton, WI in addition to other local centers, if applicable
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2+ years of clinical experience treating adolescents and/or adults
- Experience working with computers for professional communication and medical documentation including MS Office Suite and Athena RMS or other Electronic Health Records (EHRs)
- Knowledge of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)
- Knowledge of Spravato
- Willingness and ability to be a collaborating physician with PMHNPs
