Description
The Division of Infectious Diseases (ID) in the Department of Medicine at Washington University School of Medicine (WUSM), St. Louis, MO seeks applicants for a full-time faculty member to serve as the Chief Hospital Epidemiologist for Barnes Jewish Hospital (BJH). We are looking for an experienced Hospital Epidemiologist to lead our infection prevention efforts. In this role, the Chief Hospital Epidemiologist will develop and implement strategies to minimize healthcare-associated infections and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to promote patient safety.
WUSM is home to a nationally recognized clinical infection prevention program, healthcare epidemiology research program, and infectious diseases fellowship. WUSM has been funded continuously for healthcare epidemiology and antimicrobial stewardship research since 1997 through the CDC Prevention Epicenters program, and multiple faculty members are national and international leaders in the field. WUSM works closely with BJH, one of the largest and most comprehensive hospitals in the region. BJH is consistently ranked among the nation’s top hospitals in multiple specialty areas including Cardiology & Heart Surgery, Neurology & Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Obstetrics & Gynecology, and Cancer.
The candidate will provide strategic clinical and epidemiological leadership and support to BJH in managing the daily prevention of and emergency response to infectious threats to patients across the hospital. The Chief Hospital Epidemiologist will provide leadership for all aspects of the work of the Infection Prevention team and emerging infectious threat teams. In addition to medical leadership for infection prevention and control activities for BJH, the candidate will also participate in teaching and research activities in the ID division, attend on the ID consult service, and provide other patient care activities as needed. The candidate will work closely with a team of Associate Hospital Epidemiologists and mentor ID fellows who are on the Healthcare Epidemiology fellowship training track. This position offers considerable opportunities for leadership, growth, mentorship, and collaboration within an academic hospital and its affiliated large, regional healthcare system.
