Director, University of South Alabama Mitchell Cancer Institute
The Frederick P. Whiddon College of Medicine at the University of South Alabama has launched a national search for the next Director of the Mitchell Cancer Institute (MCI). The MCI is the only academic cancer treatment and research facility along the upper Gulf Coast. Continuous research and technological advancements keep the MCI at the forefront of cancer treatment and outcomes. Providers and staff are dedicated to bringing the most advanced care to people in the region, including having available clinical trials and a strong bench-to-bedside approach to oncology care that gives patients more hope for successful outcomes than ever before.
The MCI Director is central to the trajectory of USA Health. This outstanding individual will have an established reputation for clinical and academic excellence and innovation, along with a proven record of the critical leadership, organizational, and management skills needed to lead within a major academic and tertiary care institution in a highly competitive healthcare market. The Director will be a highly energetic, collaborative, and creative physician leader well-versed in providing direction and strategic planning during a time of exponential growth. The new Director will arrive at a time of inflection and will be charged with spearheading the MCI’s transformative growth. They will bring a bold, strategic vision and a passion to further develop and elevate the clinical, research, and academic enterprise that serves a large, diverse patient population in a state-of-the-art academic health center. The Director will also drive the growth of cancer care and oncological research at USA Health.
The Director is the cancer service line leader for USA Health and oversees administrative activities of the MCI in an environment that promotes excellence. The Director will be a skilled clinician who has keen business acumen and the ability to drive volume and program expansion. Ensuring the highest level of quality and safety, as well as patient satisfaction, the Director will demonstrate commitment to the clinical service needs of USA Health and the academic mission of the Frederick P. Whiddon College of Medicine at the University of South Alabama. The Director must demonstrate passion for the mentorship and development of faculty, staff and trainees including interpersonal skills that will assure successful relationship-building with a variety of stakeholders. The Director will also recognize the importance of physician and staff well-being and demonstrate commitment to the organizational values and academic purposes of USA Health.
