Join a team that s Changing What s Possible The Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) is seeking a candidate that is board certified or board eligible in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology. The Endocrinologist will participate in clinical care, research and teaching in charming Charleston, SC.

We are seeking candidates with:

  • Board certification or eligibility in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology
  • Academic orientation, interest in teaching, and passion for outreach

About our opportunity:

  • The successful applicant will treat patients with a full spectrum of endocrine conditions, including thyroid, adrenal, pituitary, bone, gonadal, and metabolic disorders, in addition to diabetes.
  • Telemedicine and e-consult initiatives are in place.
  • The appointee will work with a team of ten nurse practitioners/physician assistants/dietitians.
  • Teaching duties will focus on education of the five Endocrinology Fellows in training, and of rotating residents and medical students.

The Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolic Medicine at MUSC has a fifty year distinguished history of clinical, translational, and basic research on the complications of diabetes. A salient example was participation, under the leadership of Dr. John A. Colwell, in the design, implementation and conduct of the Diabetes Control and Complications Trial (DCCT) (1983-93) and its follow-up study, Epidemiology of Diabetes Intervention and Complications (EDIC) (1994 to present). These landmark studies proved the utility of intensive management of diabetes in preventing micro- and macro-vascular complications. They led to a 10-year NIH Program Project award to the Division to seek biochemical Markers and Mechanisms for Macrovascular Disease in Diabetes (1997-2007) (PI, Garvey, Co-PI, Lyons). In its totality, this body of work (DCCT, EDIC, Program Grant) provides us with a continuing opportunity to study the evolution of complications of diabetes over a 35-year timeframe.
