Urology Surgeon
This position will support the US Department of Veterans Affairs Critical Staffing Program. The person in this position will represent International SOS and provide the services necessary to cover the range of Urology Surgery services as would be provided in a state-of-the-art civilian medical treatment facility and the standard of care shall be of a quality, meeting or exceeding the currently recognized the Joint Commission (TJC), VA and national standards.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities will include clinic coverage, operative services, intraoperative services, postoperative follow-up, and consultative services, with 24/7 on-call/call-back coverage. Services include but are not limited to:
- Full range of urology operative services.
- Consults- An attending will be responsible for consultations to and will be available to discuss and or examine patients when consults are requested on a 24/7 basis, this includes in/out patients, write up of personal progress notes, signing the electronic medical record.
- Admissions/In-patient care – Document findings, initial diagnosis, and treatment plan, as well as any modifications or additions within 24 hours or the day after admission. Make rounds daily or as frequently as necessary for appropriate patient care. All inpatient notes will be reviewed and co-signed in a timely fashion
- Clinic coverage - Monday through Friday 0800-1630. Scheduled operating days are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, from 0700- 1600.
- On-call coverage – Including phone consultations, call back required for critical patients
- Approximate case load: 18-20 patients per clinic & 3-5 procedures per surgical session.
- Approximately 10% of workload will be administrative.
Basic Requirements/Certifications:
- Current, full and unrestricted license in one or more state, commonwealth, territory or DC.
- Applicants who have ever had a license restricted, suspended, revoked, voluntarily revoked, voluntarily surrendered pending action or denied upon application are not eligible.
- Board Certified/Board Eligible by the American Board of Urology Surgeons (Copy of cert required)
- Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or equivalent
- DEA License (Copy of license is required for submission)
- Previous VA or Military experience strongly preferred but not required.
Education Required:
Doctor of Medicine degree or equivalent required. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges: Liaison Committee on Medical Education or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Copy of degree required)
Physical Requirements:
- Work is normally performed in a typical interior/clinic work environment.
- Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time.
- May require bending, stooping and lifting to 25 lbs.
Other Special Qualifications:
- US Citizen (Permanent residents can be discussed on a case by case basis)
- Must be local or relocate to project site for the duration of the contract.
- Pass/possess VA Public Trust Clearance and pass VHA credentialing process
