Pulmonary Critical Care, Sleep Medicine Physician
Bridgeport Hospital/Milford Campus/Sleep Center
This position within the Section of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine includes providing direct patient care in the medical intensive care units at Bridgeport Hospital and the Milford Campus of Bridgeport Hospital, as well as providing pulmonary consultative services at both campuses and in the pulmonary outpatient clinics. Bridgeport Hospital also has a busy Center for Sleep Medicine and candidates with Sleep Medicine fellowship training are encouraged to apply.
Scheduling is at the discretion of the Section Chief of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine. While at Bridgeport Hospital, teaching of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine fellows, Internal Medicine residents, and students will be included in typical clinical duties. The position may also include other clinical and administrative duties as assigned by the Section Chief of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine and/or the Chair of Internal Medicine.

ResponsibilitiesRESPONSIBILITIES
- Diagnosing and treating disorders and diseases of the lungs and critical illness. For those with fellowship training in Sleep Medicine, responsbilities would also include diagnosing and treating sleep disorders.
- Consulting with patients (and/or surrogates) to determine the appropriate course of treatment.
- Recommending and orders tests to determine extent of illness or help diagnose condition.
- Communicating recommendations to the referring provider(s).
- Supervising and teaching medical students, Internal Medicine residents, and Pulmonary/Critical Care Medicine fellows
REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION (number of years and type required to perform the position duties): MD, DO or equivalent; successful completion of Internal Medicine or Emergency Medicine residency and Pulmonary Diseases/Critical Care Medicine fellowship in accredited programs; board eligibility or certification in Internal Medicine or Emergency Medicine, Pulmonary Disease, and/or Critical Care Medicine. To provide care in the Center for Sleep Medicine, fellowship training and board eligbility/certification are also required.
EXPERIENCE (number of years and type required to meet an acceptable level of performance): Prior experience beyond fellowship training is not required.
SPECIAL SKILLS: All procedures expected of a clinical pulmonologist/critical care physician. This includes but is not limited to: the placement of central venous lines including hemodialysis catheters and pulmonary artery catheters, placement of arterial lines, endotracheal intubation, bronchoscopy (and sub-procedures), thoracentesis, paracentesis, and lumbar puncture.
ACCOUNTABILITY (how this position is held accountable for such as goals achievement, budget adherence, or other areas of accountability): Reports to the Section Chief of the Section of Pulmonary-Critical Care-Sleep Medicine and/or the Chair of Internal Medicine. Is accountable to the Program Directors of the Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine fellowship and Internal Medicine residency in terms of teaching duties.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: As above; also, eligible to be licensed in the state of CT.
INFORMATIONAL SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMAND: MMR is required. Varivax (chicken pox vaccine) or evidence of prior chicken pox is required. Hepatitis B (or signed declination) is required for those with potential exposure to blood/body fluids. Tdap and influenza vaccination are strongly encouraged. Significant call and clinical responsibility commitment during time spent as MICU attending.
