Position description
The Division of Hematology Oncology, Department of Internal Medicine, at the University of California, Davis, School of Medicine, is recruiting for a full-time academic position at the Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Clinical Internal Medicine (Clinical X: Clinician-Investigator) or Assistant/Associate/Full Health Sciences Clinical Professor (HSCP: Clinician-Educator) series. Responsibilities include direct inpatient (with a focus on consultative services) and outpatient clinical care, teaching medical students, residents and fellows, and university/public service. The successful applicant will engage in patient care, teaching, service, and clinical and/or clinical and translational research. The selected candidate will have demonstrated excellence in and commitment to teaching. For the Clinical X appointment, the applicant must have the ability to develop and implement investigator-initiated research, obtain extramural funding, and conduct collaborative science as a team member and leader. For the HSCP appointment, the applicant must have the ability to make significant contributions to research teams. Typically, more research effort is allocated to faculty in the Clinical X series, dependent on performance and funding.

The division has 38 faculty, 2 staff physicians, 10 fellows, 21 NP’s, 53 staff, and operates a large and diverse clinical and research program. The division manages the Hemostasis and Thrombosis Center, co-manages a large Anticoagulation Clinic, has an Adult Sickle Cell program, and operates an Iron Deficiency Clinic. The Department of Pathology staffs a busy Transfusion Medicine Service with whom there is close collaboration, and a Specialty Coagulation Lab. The division is a major component of the NCI-designated UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center and has a strong presence in developmental therapeutics with an Experimental Therapeutics Clinical Trials Network (ETCTN) grant and as a Lead Academic Participating Site (LAPS) with the NCI National Clinical Trials Network. The UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center is a member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN). The division research portfolio is particularly broad and spans laboratory-based early translation to population sciences and health disparities. The UC Davis School of Medicine is in the top quarter of US medical schools for NIH funding and one of the inaugural Clinical and Translational Award sites. The University of California, Davis is one of the top public research universities in the nation.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
• Must possess an MD or MD/PhD degree
• Expertise is required in classical hematology, with an emphasis on non-neoplastic disease such as hemostasis and thrombosis, autoimmune cytopenias, and anemia.
• Experience in and the ability to teach medical students, residents, and fellows at multiple levels on benign and/or malignant hematology and/or oncology on inpatient service and in clinics
• Demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment
Additional qualifications (required at time of start)
• Be board certified or board eligible by the ABIM in hematology
• Must be eligible for medical licensure in the State of California
• Candidates must have completed a fellowship in hematology (board certified or eligible at the time of appointment) (medical oncology desirable but not required
Preferred qualifications (other preferred, but not required, qualifications for the position)
• Evidence of administering clinical trials is highly desirable
• Evidence of ability to obtain competitive grant funding highly desirable
• Ability to care for some malignant hematologic conditions also desirable.
