At the VA Maryland Health Care System (VAMHCS) and the University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM), we are committed to providing exceptional healthcare services and advancing medical knowledge through research and education. We are seeking a dedicated Internal Medicine Board Certified Hospitalist to provide comprehensive inpatient care to our nation's veterans. The Hospitalist will be an integral part of our healthcare team, working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care. This role involves clinical, academic, and potential research responsibilities within a highly respected medical center and teaching environment. Must have a passion for teaching, mentoring trainees since this Hospitalist will be mainly working on inpatient teaching teams. We are also looking for a Hospitalist who has interests in quality improvement, commitment to bettering systems issues to improve Veterans care and access. We have 4 general medicine teaching teams and 1 non-teaching team that the hospitalists all rotate equally through.
Schedule:
Mainly 2 weeks on wards (including weekends) and then 2 weeks off. The 2 weeks off will include a couple of days of administrative time. Hospitalists will also be expected to be on sick/emergency coverage 6-7 weeks (just weekdays) out of the year during their off blocks (where they can't be out of town and expected to come in if someone calls out). Hospitalists will also take turns being the on-call hospitalist while they are on wards to staff admissions with the residents before 10PM, staff emergency medicine consults (rare). The group currently consists of 10 full-time hospitalists who work very well together, all extremely dedicated towards optimal care of our Veterans.
Qualifications:
- MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
- Board Certified in Internal Medicine.
- Unrestricted medical license to practice in the United States.
- Demonstrated commitment to patient care, medical education, and clinical research.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience working with a diverse patient population, including veterans, is preferred.
