The American University of Beirut (AUB) Faculty of Medicine (FM) and Medical Center is seeking a recognized clinical and academic leader for the position of Chairperson of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery (ORL-HNS).
The Department offers a comprehensive range of adult and pediatric services covering otology and audiology, balance disorders, sinus and nasal diseases, voice and swallowing disorders, sleep apnea, head and neck cancers, as well as specialized surgeries involving skull base, facial, and reconstructive procedures. Committed to exceptional inpatient- and outpatient-centered care, the Department maintains robust collaborations across the various FM departments.
The Department of ORL-HNS is actively engaged in research focusing on diseases of the ear, nose, and throat, and related illnesses. The Department is also deeply committed to academic excellence in clinical training, offering a Residency Program in Otorhinolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education International (ACGME-I). It also plays a pivotal role in the teaching and mentoring of medical students and residents, reinforcing its commitment to advancing medical knowledge and practice.
The candidate for the position of Chairperson of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery should be an accomplished clinical and academic leader, possessing a profound foundation in otorhinolaryngology. This includes an advanced understanding of both the medical and surgical management of ORL-HNS disorders, ensuring comprehensive leadership across all facets of the Department. The candidate must hold a medical degree with subsequent formal clinical training in otorhinolaryngology, preferably from accredited residency and fellowship programs. Interested candidates should have leadership experience marked by a distinguished record in clinical practice, education, and research, and should have achieved a recognized academic rank, preferably as Associate Professor or Professor. Essential skills include exceptional communication, teamwork, administrative, and managerial abilities. The applicant must also have a proven track record in mentoring faculty and trainees, fostering academic growth, and a commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion within the academic environment.
Applicants should submit the following documents: 1) curriculum vitae; 2) a letter of intent, including a summary of accomplishments in the areas of clinical service, teaching, research, program development, and administrative management; 3) a proposed vision and strategic plan for the Department of Otorhinolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery at AUB-FM*; and 4) the names of at least four references.
