Job Details
The Medical Director of Obstetrics is a facility leadership role reporting to the Senior Medical Director of Women's Health, Canyons Region. In addition, the position reports indirectly to the LDS Hospital administrative team.
This leader will have 4 hours per week of administrative time. They will also serve clinically as an Obstetric Hospitalist providing care at LDS Hospital full time, with an expectation of averaging 7 24-hour shifts per month. Our OB Hospitalists provide care for unassigned patients and coordinate follow-up care. They render services to patients who deliver precipitously or have emergency obstetric conditions that require STAT obstetric care. In a 24-hour shift, the OB Hospitalist can expect to participate in 2-3 deliveries. On a limited basis, this position will include caring for unassigned Gyn non-surgical and unstable patients in the Emergency Department.
LDS Hospital is located in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah. It is a haven for women’s health providers with MFM, Gyn/Onc, UroGyn, general Ob/Gyn, midwives, and other specialists on campus. Anesthesiologists and Neonatal Providers on site 24/7.
Responsible for:
- Upholding Intermountain Health’s fundamentals of Safety, Quality, Equity, Experience, Access, Stewardship, and Engaged Caregivers
- Optimizing obstetric patient experiences throughout the hospital
- Clinical leadership for the facility’s obstetrics providers
- Working in close partnership with local hospital leadership in obstetrics, gynecology, neonatology, anesthesiology, pediatrics, family medicine and emergency medicine to optimize quality and safety of obstetric care within the hospital
- Educating obstetric providers and nurses within the hospital about region-wide obstetric practice standards
- Collaborates with Ob/Gyn Department Chair in leadership and important decisions
- Oversees the Ob Hospitalist program at the hospital
- Coordinates call schedule
- Oversight of quarterly Labor and Delivery simulation
- Participating in peer review, HEAL, and Rapid Event Investigations regarding obstetrics cases and providing updates at department meetings
- Overseeing related research initiatives in collaboration with Office of Research
- Providing specialty specific review and/or consultation as requested by SelectHealth.
- Providing specialty specific consultation as requested by Digital Technology Services/Information Systems
- Addressing professional or performance concerns as indicated
Job Essentials:
- Lead and inspire a culture of success, collaboration, teamwork and dedication by all team members including physicians, APP’s, nurses, technicians and all staff members.
- Track and improve patient experience scores
- Tracking and oversight of protocol adherence and outcomes
- Regular meetings with regionwide Ob Hospitalist leadership
- Participate in regularly scheduled staff meetings as well as region-wide OB/GYN development Team and OB/GYN Department Meetings.
- Partner with Obstetric Leadership to develop standards for obstetric care
- Partner with hospital nursing leadership on Labor and delivery and Mother/Baby unit to implement protocols, initiatives and safety bundles
- Work together with Life Flight, nursing and Maternal Fetal Medicine leaders to optimize obstetric transports including implementation of best practices
- Meet with hospital administration, including chief medical officer and department chair, to discuss obstetric and ob hospitalist issues
- Review and sign credentialing packets.
To be successful, you’ll need:
- M.D or D.O. with residency and Board Certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Degree must be obtained through an accredited institution. Education is verified.
- Licensed or able to be licensed to practice medicine in the State of Utah.
- Qualified to be credentialed at an Intermountain Hospital and SelectHealth.
- Must be able to demonstrate effective leadership skills and the ability to work effectively and collegially with clinical and non-clinical staff to move others to action and model the vision and values of the organization.
- 3-5 years of clinical experience with progressive leadership experience in obstetrics.
- Exceptional verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
