Healthcare has seen a renewed focus on both the patient and provider experience, and an expanding reliance onestablished and emerging digital technologies to deliver high quality, safe, equitable and efficient care. The MGB Assistant CMIO will provide leadership for the implementation and optimization of clinical information systems to further MGB Healthcare at Home (MGB HC@H) site and MGB strategies, and to facilitate the delivery of high quality, safe, equitable, efficient care in an environment of exceptional patient and care team experience.

In the short-term, the position will focus on supporting the volume growth of the new and rapidly growing Home Hospital and Emergency Care at Home (ECAH) service lines, while simultaneously improving safety, and care team experience with the EHR and associated clinical IT systems. The position will also support other emerging service lines in the Healthcare at Home space. The Assistant CMIO will be a leader and change agent, working closely with clinicians and operations from all specialties to understand their workflows and needs. The Assistant CMIO will also serve as a liaison to the MGB Digital teams. The incumbent will work closely with the HC@H Digital Solutions Delivery team; and the MGB Digital Health Services Operations team on specific clinical system project execution; and the Digital training team to execute consistent enterprise-wide training and communication at their site. The Assistant CMIO will help develop and lead the site Super User Program to obtain broad-based input into the design of clinical information systems and to share key communications with the clinical community. The Assistant CMIO will represent MGB HC@H site on a range of site and MGB committees, such as the Clinical informatics advisory committee.

The incumbent will also have an initial focus on identifying and implementing solutions to surfaced clinical and operational challenges. Over time, the incumbent’s focus will evolve depending on the needs of the organization and our clinicians. Upcoming projects will include regular Epic upgrades, continued implementation of the paging/texting platform Voalte, and the MGB/BestBuy relationship including optimizing the RPM platform, and co-development of the Care Orchestration platform.

In the long-term, the incumbent will focus on becoming a strategic partner with MGB HC@H site leadership to inform, understand and promote Digital solutions to further the enterprise strategy and mission. They will identify, prioritize and support Digital solution ideation, development and implementation that aligns with MGB HC@H site and enterprise goals.

S/he will be seen as a leader and content expert, such that end users will escalate digital concerns and new ideas through them. The Assistant CMIO will have responsibility to their site Clinical & Digital leadership, and the MGB enterprise, considering priorities and impacts both locally and system-wide. S/he will work closely with site leadership, Site Digital governance, MGB Digital governance committees, and the MGB CMIO and other site CMIOs to prioritize initiatives. To advance Epic and other information technology adoption at their site in an efficient and effective manner, the incumbent will work directly with site clinical champions, nursing informatics, super users,clinical, administrative and Digital leaders.

May be assigned to cover a specific area of domain expertise, serving as the clinical digital lead for that area bridging between OCMO, OCOO and Digital as necessary. In this role, s/he will have responsibility for understanding the strategy and priorities of that clinical/operational domain, identifying opportunities for Digital solutions to support strategic goals, facilitating prioritization of any Digital work, and engaging in enterprise-wide implementation efforts. In this role, s/he will maintain a strong connection with OCMO and/or OCOO and Digital.

This position will be 50% effort with the remainder of the incumbent’s efforts directed to clinical work, teaching,and/or research.

Qualifications:

  • Active and current Massachusetts clinical license with board certification in his/her specialty or subspecialty. Maintains an active clinical practice within the MGB HC@H service lines.
  • Advanced training or degree in medical informatics or board certification in clinical informatics is preferred, but not required.
  • Two or more years of healthcare leadership experience, preferably involving the deployment and optimization of digital clinical systems.
  • Excellent knowledge of clinical workflow.
  • Demonstrated strong commitment to progress, customer service and teamwork.

Working Conditions:

  • Standard office environment with regular travel to different MGB sites.
  • Patient Care delivery areas as needed.
  • 24x7 responsibilities requiring on call and evening, night, weekend hours as needed
