Pennington Biomedical Research Center, a world-renowned academic research institute of Louisiana State University, is seeking a Physician within the clinical science division.  The Physician will provide 40 hours of clinical services at Pennington Biomedical and to its clinical provider partner.  The position will also oversee clinical trials, perform safety medical reviews, participate in the development of clinical trials, and oversee the medical aspects of clinical research projects initiated by scientists at Pennington Biomedical. Grant submissions to NIH and pharmaceutical companies would be expected from a Physician Scientist.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide physician services through a clinical partner
  • Clinical duties include providing diagnostic evaluation and/or treatment of individuals who seek physician services at clinical partner.
  • Provide clinical services as a medical investigator
  • Develop independent and externally funded research program in nuclear medicine; publish research in high impact journals; actively collaborate with other PIs at Pennington Biomedical; and take part in other scholarly activities including grant reviews, participation in professional societies, and presentations at local, national, and international meetings.
  • Function as the medical investigator for research studies, which includes participation in committees relating to safety, eligibility or other areas within the realm of clinical research and medical oversight.
  • Delivers oversight to the Pennington Biomedical staff directly involved in study execution.
  • Provides medical safety review of clinical research protocols as requested by sponsors.
  • Responsible for protecting the rights, safety and welfare of study participants.
  • Provides medical and scientific feasibility of new sponsor inquiries.
  • Attends study initiation meetings and communicates with the IRB.
  • Conducts medical histories and physical exams on study participants.
  • Evaluates clinical laboratory results, EKG, exercise stress test results, and other clinical study examinations.
  • Monitors all participant adverse events, medical conditions, and response to study medications and treatments.
  • Take center wide call and provide cross coverage for other research physicians as needed.


Required Qualifications:

  • MD or equivalent
  • 3 years nuclear medicine residency
  • 1 year nuclear oncology fellowship
  • Successful licensure to practice in the State of Louisiana
  • Experience in Oncology
  • Strong oral, written communication, and presentation skills
  • ABNM certification
  • CNBC certification
  • ECFMG certification
