On behalf of Shari Barkin, MD, MSHS, Professor and Chair, Department of Pediatrics at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) and Pediatrician-in-Chief, Children’s Hospital of Richmond (CHoR), CareerPhysician, the national leader in academic child health executive search is pleased to inform you of the national search to identify a talented, dynamic pediatric pulmonologist to join a tremendous group of faculty and internationally respected thought leaders in efforts to expand pulmonary programs, grow basic science and translational and clinical research, and foster a productive and inspiring environment for educating and mentoring the next generation.   

CHoR is home to a nationally renowned cystic fibrosis center with outcomes that ranks among the best in the nation, as well nationally respected UCAN asthma clinic, which offers treatment to children with severe asthma as well as educational support to families.

Opportunity Highlights:

  • The division of pulmonary medicine houses a three-year fellowship program and boasts of a history of incredible ground-breaking research.
  • The division of pulmonary medicine houses the sleep program and can offer opportunities for faculty to participate in sleep medicine as part of their clinical scope.
  • Faculty and patients benefit from a multi-disciplinary approach to pediatric sleep medicine includes physicians with expertise in developmental pediatrics and pediatric complex care and excellent collaborations with ENT and pediatric neurology.   
  • The division is home to outstanding mentors and national thought leaders in their fields of expertise, including Michael S. Schechter, MD, MPH, in Asthma, Cystic Fibrosis and sociodemographic influences and treatment variation on disease outcomes and Judy Voynow, MD, in Cystic Fibrosis.
  • Practice in new state-of-the-art children’s hospital including a certified pediatric sleep lab, constructed in 2022 with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment and support for the future creation of a Sleep Medicine Fellowship.
  • Rich history of educating future pediatric providers and leaders.
  • Community partnerships with health systems, school districts and children’s organizations extend across Central Virginia.
