Committed to the education of future generations of medical professionals, Adventist Health in the Central Valley serves as the sponsoring institution of two residency programs in Hanford and Tulare, where new physicians receive hands-on training in family medicine. We are currently looking for family medicine physicians, with a passion for teaching to join our faculty in Hanford or Tulare.
Under the direction of the Family Medicine Residency Program Director, core faculty members serve as clinical leaders; assuring the delivery of high quality teaching and patient care as part of a robust accredited Residency program. Core Faculty members dedicate at an average of 32 hours per week to residency training, ensuring that all requirements are met, while providing excellent patient-centered whole person care. Core faculty will receive annual training on a variety of topics including (but not limited to): (a) all relevant policies and procedures, (b) the evaluation and assessment of residents, (c) core competencies and milestones and (d) faculty development.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Devote 32 hours weekly to the administration of the residency program and/or the education and supervision of residents.
- Supervise Family Medicine residents according to institutional and program supervision policies, ensuring patient safety and high quality care at all times.
- Monitor resident work hours, paying close attention to signs of resident fatigue or sleep deprivation and intervene or escalate as necessary, according to institutional and program fatigue mitigation policies.
- Assess Family Medicine residents, using competency based/milestone evaluations via direct observation and other relevant evaluation methods, providing them with real-time feedback through the process.
- Mentor residents, advise them regarding their career and educational goals.
- Model excellence in whole-person patient care, professionalism, scholarly activity and personal growth for the residents, fellow faculty and institution.
- Participate and/or coordinate regularly scheduled didactics (including, but not limited to: journal clubs, lectures, interdisciplinary conferences, workshops).
- Supervise Family Medicine residents' QA/QI and research activities as required/appropriate.
- Serve on relevant committees, as requested.
- Complete annual ACGME faculty survey.
- Demonstrate a commitment to scholarly work, both on your own and with residents.
- Must hold a valid and unrestricted medical license from the State of California.
- Shall be certified/maintain certification with the American Board of Family Medicine or with the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians.
- Physician faculty members from other specialties must have current American Board of Medical Specialties certification in their respective specialties.
- Clinically active, working in direct patient care and the supervision of patient care.
- 1-3 years of Family Medicine educational experience
- Experience providing patient care in a rural setting and/or under-served area
- Wage Scale: $288,000 to $371,000
