Psychiatrist - Regional Medical Director - Natchaug Hospital

When people in Eastern Connecticut need help with behavioral health - whether for psychiatric illness or chemical dependency - they turn to Natchaug Hospital. The hospital's 57-bed facility in Mansfield Center, Connecticut, provides inpatient care for over 650 children and adolescents and 1,300 adults with mental illness or substance abuse issues each year.
The Medical Director for Psychiatry in the East Region provides leadership and direction to administrative and clinical phases of behavioral health services including Inpatient and Outpatient Services, mental health and addiction treatment services and behavioral health research within the Behavioral Health Network. Provides direct supervision to the Department's physician/physician extender and allied health professional staff and is responsible for ensuring the quality and continuity of services delivered.
Administrative, Teaching and Research Services:
• Hire and retain medical staff with a focus on high quality care, patient access, safety, and an exceptional patient experience.
• Foster a culture of team-based, patient-centered, recovery-oriented care.
• As a senior medical leader, provide vision, hope, and inspiration to the staff (medical and otherwise) as well as build an environment of trust, fairness and collaboration.
• Use metrics that accurately reflect the goals - such as LOS for access, and readmissions for quality. Bring meaning to such metrics so that staff feels connected to them and they inspire teams to perform.
• In collaboration with the VP or Operations direct and support the development of the highest quality professional practice standards across the East Region.
• Create alignment of common goals and shared sense of purpose in the East that comprise the Behavioral Health Network.
• Participate in the strategic plan for the BHN that will result in HHC being viewed as a leader in clinical care and research, prevention and education.
• Continue to enhance the reputation of the East Region as a provider of high quality, patient centered clinical care, establishing a national presence as a leader in the delivery of addiction and mental health treatment programs for children, teens and adults.
• Develop and support efforts to reduce variations in care, eliminate waste, improve quality, and align physicians to ensure access to the highest standard of care.
• Represent Psychiatry in communities throughout the region.
• Provide supervision for Associate or Assistant Medical Directors, coaching and mentoring continuously.
• Develop a physician medical staff plan to identify gaps in existing clinical expertise.
• Promote a culture of safety and report on adherence to relevant safe practices.

- There is an expectation of 20% clinical work as well, both to contribute to patient care and to reflect an understanding of the work from the point of view on the clinical front lines.
