Introduction: The University of Connecticut (UConn) is seeking applications and nominations for the Director of the Pat and Jim Calhoun Cardiology Center. UConn is among the best public research universities in the nation, and UConn Health is home to more than 1,515 students, 600 faculty, and 5,000 staff, located in the beautiful, historic community of Farmington, Connecticut. The UConn Health Center is a dynamic organization comprising the School of Medicine with its faculty practice, School of Dental Medicine, Graduate School, John Dempsey Hospital, and the UConn Health System, with active collaborations with affiliated institutions, including The Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine housed on the UConn Health Center campus. Our overall mission is to provide exceptional health care through patient services and safety as well as to discover and advance clinical treatments through cutting-edge research.

The Pat and Jim Calhoun Cardiology Center at UConn School of Medicine and UConn Health comprises a multidisciplinary team including interventional cardiologists, electrophysiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, vascular surgeons, and other medical professionals who offer services ranging from preventative cardiology for managing risk factors, such as cholesterol disorders, to today’s most sophisticated interventional and surgical procedures. In addition, we offer specialized services to diagnose and treat heart failure, heart rhythm disorders, and vascular disorders such as peripheral arterial disease, abdominal aortic aneurysms, and carotid disease. Because UConn Health operates a university hospital, our experts are involved in today’s most promising research, and we are engaged in educating the next generation of physicians and cardiac specialists within our ACGME-accredited fellowship programs in both cardiology and interventional cardiology.

The Calhoun Center’s mission is to provide comprehensive cardiovascular services - both medical and surgical – for the citizens of Connecticut, advance the state-of-the-art and scientific basis for various heart conditions, provide leadership in ensuring equity in cardiac care for all members of our community, and train the next generation of leaders in cardiology.
