The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service (PM&R) at the Greater Los Angeles (GLA) VA Healthcare System is recruiting a Deputy Chief for our PM&R team.

Critical to the continued care of our Veterans, the Deputy Chief of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Service (PM&RS) is responsible for the administrative supervision, management, and direction of all PM&Rs’ programs—and approximately 155 employees with approximately 30 direct reports.  The PM&RS include Physiatrists, Chiropractors, Nurse Practitioners, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Recreational Therapy, Kinesiotherapy and Blind Rehabilitation Services. PM&Rs serves as a Polytrauma Network Site, Polytrauma Amputation Network Site, and VISN hub for Interventional and Chronic Pain Management. The PM&R is CARF accredited for CIIRP, Pain, Stroke Rehabilitation, Interdisciplinary Pain Rehabilitation Program and Low Vision Services.   Services provided by PM&Rs include physician evaluation and treatment and individual and group therapies. As the Deputy Chief of PM&R, you will lead an interdisciplinary team for patient care and program development, manage service-level quality improvement activities that monitor critical aspects of care, recommend clinical privileges for each department member, and maintain quality control of programs as appropriate. In addition, the PM&R Department serves as the primary training site for the UCLA/VA PM&R residency program and Pain Medicine fellowship program. 

The Deputy Chief of PM&R functions as a liaison to the Associate Chief of Staff for Education for Graduate Medical Education issues and ensures orientation to service rotation for program trainees (residents, pain fellows, chiropractic residents, medical and therapy program students); interviews candidates for positions in the unit; recommends appointments, promotions, and reassignments to unit positions; identifies and provides for training needs; and finds ways to improve production or increase the quality of work within the area of authority.

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am-4:30pm 


    Must be a U.S. CitizenEducation: Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree in allopathic or osteopathic medicine 
      Must be LCME accredited or approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College of Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association
    Must possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a state, territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency: Must have completed residency in an accredited core specialty 
      ACGME or AOA orOther residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum five years of verified practice in the US); must be approved by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee.
    Preferred minimum of 5 years of leadership experience, but not required. Board Certified in PM&R preferred, Fellowship training in Sports Medicine, Brain Injury Medicine, or Pain Medicine
