The Salem Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC), located in Salem, VA, is a Level 1c tertiary referral center and a teaching hospital providing a variety of patient care services with a full range of medical sub-specialties, including a full time ED, Urgent care, Cath lab, Endoscopy Suite, and Interventional Pain Service.

Salem bed capacity incudes: 182 general, surgical, and psychiatry; 90 Extended Care Rehabilitation Center (with a 10 bed short-stay Rehabilitation Center) and 26 Substance Abuse Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (10 long-term Substance Abuse).

We are seeking a highly motivated dermatologist who shares our commitment to providing excellent care to our US veterans. The ideal candidate will be open to collaboration, teaching and enjoys caring for veterans. The Salem VAMC is small enough to connect with the patients but big enough to still have some of the best equipment and program capability to service veteran’s needs. Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provides patient care to Veterans in the area dermatology in the form of primary and/or consultative care.
  • Provides medical diagnostic evaluation and initial assessment of patient which includes focused history, physical examinations, and pertinent laboratory investigations.
  • Demonstrate sound decision-making skills, both clinical and administrative, which bring credit to the profession and serve to enhance the distinctive and contributory role of physicians.
  • Facilitate the delivery of appropriate patient care in collaboration with other health professionals, medical center staff, and management.
  • Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic tests necessary to complete required evaluations.
  • Participates in the rotation as the third call attending
  • Maintains, consistently courteous, respectful, and cooperative in nature, relationships with management, co-workers, patients, and the general public.
  • Exhibits leadership in suggesting instituting changes in patient care programs based on current concepts and finding from research and studies.
  • Coordinate patient care with additional consultants, including resources outside of the VAMC as deemed appropriate.
