Medical Director of Heart Transplantation -| Division of Cardiology – University of Rochester
The Division of Cardiology at the University of Rochester is seeking an advanced heart failure and transplantation (AHFT) cardiologist to join an elite team of academic physicians at the assistant or associate professor rank as our Medical Director of Heart Transplantation. The successful candidate will have expertise in advanced heart failure with a focus on cardiac transplantation. The successful candidate will report directly to the Medical Director of Advanced Heart Failure and work closely with our Surgical Director of Heart Transplantation. Interest and expertise in Adults with Congenital Heart Disease welcome.

Our program currently performs approximately 20 transplants her year, including combined heart-kidney transplant (over 340 transplants since inception). We utilize the available heart preservation and transport system, and have launched a DCD NRP program. We are one of the largest LVAD programs in the country, performing 70-85 LVAD implantations per year—with currently 300 LVAD patients on support (nearing 1000 durable LVAD implantations). We have three full time cardiothoracic surgeons that perform heart transplant and LVAD surgeries.

Clinical infrastructure includes approved 9.4 AHFT cardiologist. There are three outpatient advanced practice professionals (APPs) assisted by program RN’s managing our transplant patients. Robust quality improvement, regulatory management, and data management programs and personnel are in place. We have an excellent research infrastructure supporting our Advanced Heart Failure Program. The Clinical Cardiovascular Research Center supports our clinical research, as does the Clinical & Translational Science Institute at the University of Rochester. Basic science research is supported by the Aab Cardiovascular Research Institute.

  • Board Certified in Cardiology and Advanced Heart Failure and Transplantation

  • Qualify for an academic appointment at the University of Rochester – Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with previous training and experience.

The Division of Cardiovascular Medicine
The Division of Cardiology comprised of over 70 cardiologists with focus areas to include: general cardiology, interventional, electrophysiology, heart failure, heart transplantation, mechanical circulatory assist, pulmonary vascular disease, women's cardiovascular disease, cardiac MRI/CT, and cardio-oncology. There are currently four fellowship programs: core cardiovascular medicine fellowship (six fellows per year), interventional cardiology fellowship, electrophysiology fellowship, and advanced heart failure and transplantation fellowship.

The University of Rochester is a quaternary referral medical center with referrals from across the broad region of New York State with a state-of-the-art advanced imaging and intensive care unit facilities that are supported by 4 catheterization labs and 3 EP labs. The division has a newly created dedicated 22 bed CICU fully staffed with a team of 7 cardiac critical care intensivists and 20 advance practice professionals providing 24/7 coverage. We have a dedicated Advanced Heart Failure 23 bed unit staffed 24/7 by advance practice professionals. A new cardiovascular tower will be completed by 2026.

The Rochester International Jazz Festival is one of the top 10 Jazz festivals in the nation. The region boasts access to great watersports both on Lake Ontario as well as the Finger Lakes. The Finger Lakes region is also home to many internationally known wineries. Rochester has a rich history and was the last step on the underground railroad and the place Frederick Douglas called home. It is also the location of the Susan B. Anthony House making Rochester the epicenter of the woman’s suffrage movement. Rochester is surrounded by wonderful hiking opportunities and access to the Adirondacks.
