Associate/Full Professor of Surgery – Trauma Medical Director and Acute Care Surgeon

The Department of Surgery, University of California, San Francisco, is seeking outstanding candidates for a full time academic, Trauma Medical Director (TMD) and Acute Care Surgeon with an exemplary record of patient care and expertise in Acute Care, Trauma, and Surgical Critical Care. Candidates must be board certified in General Surgery by the American Board of Surgery and be a Fellow in good standing of the American College of Surgeons. Qualified candidates should have demonstrated experience in a trauma center and/or system leadership and excellent communication and collaboration skills. Documentation of scholarly activities in the field of Acute Care Surgery is preferred. Applicant must have all requirements met by time of hire. Applicants' materials must list current and/or pending qualifications upon submission. This position will be based at the Zuckerberg San Francisco GeneralHospital and Trauma Center (ZSFG) and will report directly to the Chief Medical Officer.
The Trauma Medical Director will provide clinical leadership in Trauma, Surgical Critical Care, and Emergency General Surgery, direct the multidisciplinary functions of the trauma program, and serve as the medical liaison between trauma team members and hospital administration. The TMD is responsible for ensuring that the quality of trauma patient care provided at ZSFG is commensurate with the institution's designation as a Level 1 center and as the sole provider of trauma services to the City and County of San Francisco. Additionally, the TMD, in conjunction with the Trauma Program Manager, will have primary responsibility for maintaining the Level I status of the Trauma Center. The TMD will also help develop institutional policies and procedures and protocols to improve the quality and cost-effectiveness of trauma care.
Candidates must have recognized skills in the education of surgery residents and medical students and will be expected to be active participants in the Department's residency training and educational programs.
