The Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine in partnership with the William J. von Liebig Center for Transplantation and Clinical Regeneration in Rochester, MN seeks a motivated and accomplished, board-eligible or board-certified pulmonary and critical care physician to join our growing lung transplant program in a full-time, tenure-track equivalent position (open rank).

Candidates should have completed a lung transplant fellowship program (or have sufficient equivalent clinical training and experience in lung transplantation) and be eligible for medical licensing in Minnesota.  The successful applicant will dedicate significant effort to our lung transplant practice. The remainder of the applicant’s professional time can be devoted to continuation of funded research projects, clinical activities in pulmonary medicine, critical care medicine, or sleep medicine, or in pursuit of professional development opportunities. Candidates interested in innovation in education, clinical practice, or research are particularly encouraged to apply. Candidates with expertise or specific interest in clinical trials to promote improvement in long-term post-transplant outcomes are encouraged to apply. The recruitment package anticipates protected time and resources for scholarly activities according to the applicant’s needs. The successful candidate will be appointed to an appropriate rank in the Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine and will have opportunities to support and mentor staff and trainees in scholarly endeavors.

The solid organ transplant programs across the Mayo Clinic Enterprise with sites in Minnesota, Florida, and Arizona are known for their leadership in multidisciplinary and innovative approach to patient care, cutting edge transplant research, and post-graduate education. The Mayo Rochester adult lung transplant program is part of the US World and News Reports #1 Pulmonary program and their inpatient lung transplant service is housed in US World and News Reports #1 Hospital.  The William J. von Liebig Transplant Center houses adult solid organ transplant programs in lung, liver, heart, kidney, and pancreas as well as adult autologous and allogenic stem cell transplant programs. Programs are supported by a multi-disciplinary team of transplant specialists in pathologists, infectious diseases, psychiatry, pharmacy, social work, nursing, endocrinology, dermatology, and nutrition.  Donor call and procurement are supported by procurement nurses and surgeons. The programs have expert teams of ECMO specialists and critical care support.  Additionally, all adult transplant programs have a transplant fellowship program.  Our pulmonary division has subspecialty practice expertise in all facets of pulmonary disease. We have a robust pulmonary rehabilitation and home spirometry program.

Program facts:

Current transplant volume: 46 lung transplants performed in the past 12 months Wait list data: Waitlist size averages ~ 20 patients with ~ 48 patients added annually Team size: The program is supported by four lung transplant surgeons and five transplant pulmonologists.  Recruited individual will be the 6th pulmonologist with expectation of inpatient transplant service call of about 1 in 5 weeks.

Outcomes: Excellent outcomes for survival on the waiting list and post-transplant graft and patient survival.
