The Surgeon-in-Chief and Chief, Perioperative Services is responsible to the President and Chief Executive Officer for the clinical, research and administrative activities of surgical and perioperative services in support of the mission and strategic directions of SickKids. The Surgeon-in-Chief and Chief, Perioperative Services is a key member of the President’s senior management team, ensuring the successful integration of surgical and perioperative services into the Hospital’s overall business plan. This includes contributing to the development and implementation of the Hospital’s strategic plan, ensuring all policies, programs and initiatives are consistent and supportive of the Hospital’s mission, vision and values, and serving as a role model through strong relationships and visibility, and through effective internal and external communications.
The successful candidate should ideally possess an ability to effectively collaborate with a range of stakeholders, well-honed negotiation and influencing skills, strong planning and organizational skills, strong conceptual thinking skills, and consistently demonstrate behaviours supporting values of compassion, inclusion, innovation, integrity, collaboration, and excellence. An active surgical practice with an international reputation for excellence in patient care is required. Evidence of excellence in teaching and research is required, as well as being a passionate enabler and supporter of the academic work of others.
The candidate must be eligible for appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor at the University of Toronto and be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Compensation for this role includes a Leadership/administrative stipend, and inclusion in the Executive Performance Incentive plan, in addition to clinical income which is highly variable based upon the applicant’s surgical specialty.
