This is an extraordinary opportunity to advance the department across all missions, broaden its impact on the community and the field of dermatology, and build upon the MCW’s national and international profile in education and research. The Chair has responsibility for defining the clinical, research, educational, and community engagement priorities of the Department.  Of particular importance is strong clinical leadership experience in a highly matrixed academic setting, along with the skillset to successfully recruit, think strategically, mentor, collaborate, and understand the ever-changing healthcare environment.

The Department is renowned for its nationally recognized clinical, education and research programs and with an annual budget of $10M, the Department is comprised of 15 adult faculty, 5 pediatric faculty, 8 advanced practice providers, providing care for almost 16,000 adult patients per year at Froedtert Hospital alone and well over 17,000 pediatric patients per year at the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin and off-campus clinics.  MCW and the Clement J. Zablocki Veterans Affairs Medical Center created a partnership in 1946, with the goal to provide enough physicians to meet the medical needs of the millions of Americans returning from World War II.  More than seven decades later, the collaboration continues to further the missions of both entities by offering cutting-edge care for veterans and their families and enriching the professional development of medical students, residents, interns, and fellows.

The Chair of Dermatology will be an accomplished physician, administrator, and inspirational leader, prepared to devote this phase of their career to the advancement of the faculty, the department, and the medical school at a premier academic medical center.  The successful candidate will be an individual with an engaging and open leadership style, one who can inspire faculty, learners, patients, and potential donors alike.  The Chair will promote clinical excellence and academic activity across the many idea venues of a diverse health sciences university community.  They will provide strategic leadership and direction for all aspects of the Department, as well as for MCW and its affiliate partners.   Active in national activities, they will have a professional network that will be an important asset in recruitment and in elevating the national reputation of both the department and the institution.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a passion for the mission and vision of the MCW Department of Dermatology and will have a strong track record of scholarship and leadership.  In addition, candidates should possess the following qualifications, experience, and skills:

  • MD, DO, MD/PhD, fellowship-trained and board certified in Dermatology
  • Eligible for an unrestricted license in the State of Wisconsin
  • Academic leadership experience and accomplishment commensurate with qualifications for an MCW faculty appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor level
  • Experience in medical education/administration, strong evidence of administrative ability, including, but not limited to, interpersonal, leadership, and management skills
  • Ability to articulate a compelling vision and implement a strategy that engages and advocates for patients, faculty, staff, students, partners, and donors alike

    • Demonstrated personal and professional commitment to valuing diversity, promoting inclusion by modeling, and fostering diversity and cultural proficiency
    • Unquestionable integrity and personal ethics
    • Outstanding communication skills, both oral and written
    • An entrepreneurial, collaborative, creative and driven spirit
