Senior Medical Director of Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) and Antimicrobial Stewardship

The University of Kentucky’s Infectious Diseases Division seeks an MD faculty member at the Assistant/Associate Professor or Professor level to fill the position of Senior Medical Director of Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) and Antimicrobial Stewardship. The successful candidate will lead a growing infection prevention program and an active antimicrobial stewardship program. The ideal candidate will divide their effort between patient care and infection prevention activities, including leadership and scholarship in the prevention of hospital-acquired infections and antimicrobial stewardship, engagement of internal and external stakeholders, and representing IPAC and antimicrobial stewardship in the public arena.

The current IPAC program consists of a Senior Medical Director, an Assistant Medical Director, an IPAC Nurse Manager, and ten Infection Preventionists covering 925 beds and specialty and primary care ambulatory facilities. The Senior Medical Director leads a physician team as part of the antimicrobial stewardship team and co-chairs with an Infectious Diseases Senior Pharmacist. Integral to the antimicrobial stewardship team are ten Infectious Disease Pharmacists who are heavily involved in stewardship across the UK HealthCare enterprise. The amount of clinical effort for this position is 50-60%, depending on the individual strengths and career plans of the candidate.

The UK Infectious Diseases Division has a robust multidisciplinary team approach to inpatient services, including OPAT (Outpatient Parenteral Antibiotic Therapy), endocarditis, bone & joint, and immunocompromised cases. In addition, the Bluegrass Care Clinic provides comprehensive ambulatory services for vulnerable patient populations affected by the opiate crisis, HIV/AIDS, bacterial, viral, fungal, and parasitic infections. Strong ties exist between the UK ID Division and the College of Pharmacy, Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics, as well as the College of Public Health.

Qualified candidates must be board-certified/board-eligible in Infectious Diseases and have strong teaching and clinical skills.
