Basic Requirements:

  • Primary tour of duty will Monday-Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm; Negotiable
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted, OR
  • An equivalent degree from a school of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted.
  • For foreign medical graduates not covered in the previous 2 bullets above, facility officials must verify with the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) that the applicant has met requirements for certification and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.

Additional Requirements: Board Certification in Dermatology (ABD)

Major duties/functions include, but are not limited to:

Candidate must have the ability to interpret studies for skin lesions, diagnose, treat, and recommend treatment for diseases of the dermis system. In addition to evaluation and treatment of various skin conditions, physician must analyze clinical history, keep an accurate record of patients' symptoms, prescribe medication, monitor the effectiveness of skin treatments, conduct non-intrusive medical surgeries, and refer patients to other specialists, if needed. More specifically, the quality candidate will:

  • Provide Dermatology related consultations to include diagnosis, treatment, follow-up and education of patients with Dermatologic conditions in outpatient and inpatient settings.
  • Have strong clinical diagnostic skills including ability to order appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests, to interpret results, identifying skin lesions, diagnose, treat, and recommend treatment for diseases of the dermis system.
  • Commitment to a high standard of care through the patient education and promotion and maintenance of skin health; must be able to provide clear explanation of skin conditions and educate patients about available treatment.
  • Prescribe medication and monitor effectiveness of skin treatments.
  • Perform excisional or diagnostic skin biopsies and minor skin surgeries.
  • Complete documentation and coding of visits accurately and timely.
  • Evaluate, triage, and prioritize Dermatology consult requests to ensure timely care for patients.
  • Conduct telemedicine visits for patients in outlying clinics.
  • Review images from store and forward program to make treatment recommendations or determine urgency of face-to-face evaluation.
  • Perform administrative tasks as assigned, such as peer reviews, Compensation and Pension evaluations, and Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluations (OPPE).
  • Coordinate care at VA or non-VA referral centers for patients requiring services not provided at the facility such as MOHS surgery.
  • Attend staff meetings and service on committees, process improvement teams and workgroups as requested.
