The Division of Infectious Diseases (ID) and Institute for Medicine and Public Health at Vanderbilt have an immediate opening for an advanced PhD, ScD, or MD Scientist specializing in Social and Behavioral Science applied to HIV prevention and treatment to join our faculty.

Successful candidates will join a thriving and highly collaborative research and clinical community. Our ID Division is home to the Tennessee Center for AIDS Research (CFAR), a four-way partnership between Vanderbilt, Meharry Medical College, Tennessee Department of Health, and Nashville CARES, and with an NIH funded research base of >$20 million. The CFAR is newly launching an Implementation Science Core. Vanderbilt is also home to the Vanderbilt Comprehensive Care Clinic (VCCC), which serves as the HIV treatment center and primary care medical home to nearly 4,000 clients living with HIV and hosts a clinic for preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP). Substantial HIV-related programs led by ID Division faculty members include the Caribbean, Central and South America network for HIV epidemiology (CCASAnet), the Southeast AIDS Education and Training Center (SEAETC), a President's Emergency Program for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) program in Mozambique, a site for the CFAR Network of Integrated Clinical Systems (CNICS), and clinical research sites for both HVTN and ACTG.

The Vanderbilt Institute for Medicine and Public Health (IMPH) is a dynamic institute that serves as a collaboration among more than 50 departments across the medical center, boasts 292 faculty and supports 21 centers. IMPH offers MPH and PhD programs with specializations in epidemiology, biostatistics, global health, and health policy. Among the supported centers, the Center for Health Services Research (CHSR) focuses on quality and equity of healthcare delivery and health outcomes through translational research and training initiatives, bridging the gap between evidence and real-world practice. The CHSR supports several postdoctoral and junior faculty career development training programs, as well as Core Services in qualitative research, implementation science, and health communication. Within CHSR, the Center for Health Behavior and Health Education (CHBHE) serves to connect health behavior expertise across the institution, cultivate collaboration between physician-scientists and social scientists, and help investigators effectively utlize behavioral theories and frameworks, as well as cuttng-edge analytic methods to test theories of health behavior. The Center for Clinical Quality and Implementation Research (CCQIR) serves as an academic home for implementation and improvement sciences.

The Vanderbilt Institute for Global Health is home to implementation science grants focused on enhancing male partner engagement in HIV care, engaging traditional healers and birth attendants in HIV testng and care services, and improving treatment adherence for people living with HIV. The Department of Health Policy has expertise ranging from health economics to health equity to health policy. The Vanderbilt Institute of Clinical and Translational Research (VICTR) facilitates nearly every aspect of clinical and translational research at Vanderbilt, in partnership with Meharry Medical College. Supported by a CTSA award, VICTR’s extensive resources include a Community Engagement Research Core (CERC). Transformative innovations developed by Vanderbilt include REDCap and ResearchMatch.

Ideal candidates will be Mid-career (Associate Professor or late Assistant Professor) and should have a track record of successfully securing funds to support their research. Salaries and benefits packages are highly competitive. Leadership opportunities are available and will depend on the background of the candidate.There may be the potential to work remotely (e.g., while residing in another state), depending on various considerations.
