This position is in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Baltimore VA Medical Center (VAMC)/ (VISN 5), and Neurology Service. The Neurologist will ensure the quality and timeliness of the services provided, customer satisfaction, as well as compliance with the standards of accrediting bodies such as the Joint Commission and the Inspector General's Combined Assessment Program. He/she is to ensure appropriate use of the available resources and will be responsible for state-of-the-art standards of care.

Additional duties will include but are not limited to:

  • The physician would participate in and/or manage aspects, as assigned, of the facility's Epilepsy Program and a general Neurology program, to include clinical, administrative, academic, and research components if warranted.
  • Provides direct patient care in inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Thoroughly documents examinations and histories using appropriate programs and forms.
  • Completes all medical records (including discharge summaries) in accordance with Bylaws, Rules and Regulations of the Medical Staff.
  • Participates in special duties as assigned by the Director, Epilepsy Center of Excellence, VA Maryland Health Care System.
  • Serves on medical committees, as assigned.
  • He/she collaborates with other services as appropriate.
  • The physician would manage patient workload within available staffing, which may include support of nurse practitioners.
  • The physician may work with primary care physicians on a consulting basis when a patient has symptoms that suggest a neurological issue.
  • Provides education to other physicians and healthcare professionals regarding neurological disorders and their treatments.
  • Examinations for neurological patients may include tests of a patient's cranial nerve function, cognitive status, motor skills and sensory system by asking the patient to perform activities.

Preferred Experience:

  • Ability to provide sub-specialty epilepsy services as well as see outpatient neurology appointments.
  • Ability to conduct electroencephalograms (EEGs).
  • Ability to provide clinical consultation to clinical staff both within and outside of Neurology Service.
