Associate/Full Professor - Robert H. Putnam Endowed Chair in Bipolar Research and Treatment
The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences University of California, Davis, School of Medicine, is recruiting for a physician-scientist or scientist with national recognition and distinguished scholarship in mood and bipolar disorders at the Associate or Full Professor rank in the Ladder Rank Tenured series to serve as the Robert H. Putnam Endowed Chair in Bipolar Research and Treatment. This position is critical to the growth and expansion of research programs within the department, the UC Davis MIND Institute, and the School of Medicine. The successful candidate will be expected to lead the department to new levels of excellence in mood and bipolar disorders as the Director of Mood Disorders Program in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and make a lasting impact within the UC Davis Health and the UC Davis campus.
The holder of the Robert H. Putnam Endowed Chair in Bipolar Research and Treatment will be one, whose work in the field of bipolar and mood disorders is nationally recognized.
The initial term of the Robert H. Putnam Endowed Chair in Bipolar Research and Treatment is for five years with the option of reappointment per regularly established University procedures for endowed chair/professorship appointments (APM 191, UCD 191).
The endowment will provide special financial recognition to the individual selected to support teaching, research, outreach, service, and other activities related to further the mission of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and the campus. It is expected that the holder of the endowed chair will advance appropriately through the faculty ranks based on their scholarly activities, teaching, professional competence, and service to the University and community.
- Develop a nationally prominent research program in the areas of mood and bipolar disorders
- Conduct research on mood disorders and perform service to the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences
- Provide leadership as the Director of Mood Disorders Program and be fully engaged in activities in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences
- Serve as a member of the Department's Executive Committee
- Serve as mentor to junior faculty that have interest in or are already engaged in mood and bipolar disorders
- Develop training and education initiatives for medical students, residents and faculty in mood and bipolar disorders
- Foster collaborative relationships and interdisciplinary research teams and encourage scholarship in the areas of research and treatment related to mood and bipolar disorders
- Lead and actively participate in the recruitment and retention of faculty, residents, and fellows
- Engage in teaching and scholarly activities in the area of mood disorders
Additional responsibilities specific to the Robert H. Putnam Endowed Chair in Bipolar Research and Treatment include:
- Engage in teaching and scholarly activities focused in the areas of bipolar disorders
- Provide selected lectures to medical students and residents in the courses taught in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences
- Conduct research on bipolar disorders and perform service to the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and the broader community in which it is situated
- Provide leadership in the area of bipolar research and be fully engaged in activities in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.
- Enhance the academic and intellectual life of the campus as a whole.
Qualification Requirements: MD or DO; Candidates must have active extramural research funding in mood and bipolar disorders that is transferable to UC Davis, a strong record of publication and career development in biomedical animal- and/or human-based research and demonstrated excellence in teaching and mentoring. In addition, the candidate must have the ability to anticipate change and implement initiatives to meet the challenges of academic medicine and science, a demonstrated commitment to diversity including a record of successful mentorship to diverse candidates, the ability to create relationships with commercial partners, and should exhibit excellent interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with administration, trainees, clinicians, faculty in other disciplines, and technical staff. The ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment is required.
The incumbent will provide teaching and supervision of medical students, residents, and fellows, participate in appropriate professional societies and educational organizations, and provide service to department and school committees. This individual should also have ability to foster collegiality and work collaboratively in a diverse environment and adhere to University policies and procedures.
This recruitment is conducted at the Associate/Full Professor rank. The resulting hire will be at the Associate/Full Professor rank, commensurate with credentials.
