The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Carilion Clinic and Virginia Tech-Carilion School of Medicine seeks a physician leader to serve as the Division Director of Gynecologic Oncology at the level of Associate or Full Professor.

The Division of Gynecologic Oncology has over 30 years experience treating gynecologic malignancies, serving a broad catchment area, including the majority of southwest Virginia. The division consists of 3 physicians, 2 physician assistants with plans to add an additional ambulatory and hospital-based advanced care practitioners. The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology offers comprehensive care to the community with a large Academic Specialist in General Obstetrics and Gynecology practice, Maternal Fetal Medicine, Urogynecology, Reproductive Medicine, Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery, and Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology.

Successful candidates will be expected to be recognized clinicians in gynecologic oncology, minimally invasive surgery, experienced with clinical trials and research, and have demonstrated academic and administrative leadership skills. Candidates must possess a commitment to teaching and mentoring residents and medical students, as well as participation in clinical trials. Practice with cutting edge technology in our state-of-the-art, 703-bed flagship teaching/tertiary referral hospital with an ACS-accredited comprehensive cancer program and ACR-accredited radiation oncology.

Expanding Carilion s cancer program has become a strategic priority in response to the growing number of patients in the region with cancer. Plans include a new Cancer Center that will bring together personalized care, advanced treatment options, and cutting-edge research in a single location. The facility, located in Roanoke, will form the centerpiece of a fully integrated, nationally recognized program serving patients from throughout western Virginia and surrounding states. It will join a rapidly growing community of scientists, researchers, clinicians, and students as part of the Health Sciences and Technology Campus anchored by Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, and the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC. The facility will attract additional top-tier cancer specialists to educate the next generation of cancer physicians, conduct research, and provide outstanding patient care.

As a member of the oncology leadership team, the Division Director will have the unique opportunity to shape the future of cancer care in Southwest Virginia by participating in the development of the comprehensive cancer care program while taking advantage of established collaborative research partnerships with Virginia Commonwealth University, Virginia Tech, and Blue Ridge Cancer Care.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • MD or DO Degree from Accredited Medical School
  • Board-Certified in Gynecologic Oncology
  • Unencumbered Virginia medical license and DEA
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Commitment to medical education and clinical research
