An Invitation to Apply for an Exceptional Leadership Opportunity
Search for the Chair of Family and Community Medicine University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine and Renown Health
Reno, Nevada

The University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine (UNR Med) and Renown Health (Renown) invite nominations and applications for the position of Chair of the Department of Family and Community Medicine (FCM). The new Chair will provide strategic leadership to the Department during an exciting time of growth and expansion as the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine partners with Renown Health, a vibrant and locally-governed non-profit health system. The Chair of Family and Community Medicine reports directly to UNR Med's Dean and Renown Health's Chief Medical Officer. The Chair oversees Renown's Divisions of Primary Care, Sports Medicine, Urgent Care as well as the Family Medicine residency, Sports Medicine, and Wilderness Medicine fellowships.

The new Chair of Family and Community Medicine will have a major impact on the future of healthcare in northern Nevada. In 2021, UNR and Renown entered into a landmark 50-year affiliation to transform healthcare in the state. Strong department chair leadership is central to the successful integration of UNR Med's academic and clinical components with Renown Health's clinical services to grow an expansive clinical enterprise, train and educate a much-needed physician workforce, develop clinical research and bring together the missions of both organizations to provide compassionate and high-quality care to Nevadans in urban and rural communities.

As an important "front door" for patients of UNR & Renown, FCM plays a significant role in improving the health and well-being of individuals and families in Nevada's communities and serving as a gateway patient utilization of other healthcare services. The FCM team is eager for leadership that helps grow the Department's reputation of providing excellent clinical care to its patients, transformative educational programs for its students, residents, and fellows, and research vital to further strengthening the practice of family and community medicine. In fact, UNR Medical students have named Family and Community Medicine "Department of the Year" for 15 years, establishing itself as a department comprised of remarkable faculty clinicians and a competitive Family Medicine residency program with urban and rural tracks. The task and opportunity now is to seamlessly integrate the academic and clinical components of the two partners, develop clinical research and continue the Department's rich history of excellence in teaching and delivery of great patient care to northern Nevadans. Thus, this role is well-suited for a solutions-oriented, entrepreneurial, and collaborative family medicine physician leader who can effectively coalesce existing organizational assets and help translate them into academic, operational, and financial success.

To be successful, the next Chair will be expected to address a set of key opportunities and challenges, listed below:

• Develop and execute a bold, strategic vision for the FCM Department
• Build and strengthen internal operations to inspire a transparent, innovative, and collegial internal culture
• Recruit, hire, and retain physicians to fortify the clinical operations and academic initiatives
• Sustain and enhance educational excellence
• Generate funding resources to fully support the Department's ambitions
• Serve as an effective ambassador and representative for the Department

Screening of complete applications will begin immediately and continue until the completion of the search process. Inquiries, nominations, referrals, and CVs with cover letters should be sent via the Isaacson, Miller website for the search: https://www.imsearch.com/open-searches/university-nevada-reno-school-medicine/chair-family-and-community-medicine.
