The University of South Carolina School of Medicine (USCSOM) is seeking a board - certified child abuse pediatrician to provide programmatic oversight of the SC Children’s Advocacy Medical Response System (SCCAMRS). This statewide child abuse medical program was established in 2004 to address the shortage and training of medical providers specializing in the medical evaluation of child maltreatment and the disparity in quality and delivery of these services. It is a comprehensive resource system for clinical, educational, quality improvement, legislative advocacy and funding support. It was statutorily codified in 2014.

Currently, the Program supports a network of child abuse pediatricians, primary care physicians, advanced practice providers and sexual assault/forensic nurse examiners trained to deliver medical services across the state for maltreatment concerns. SCCAMRS also works collaboratively with the State children’s hospitals, the SC Network of Children’s Advocacy Centers and the USC Children’s Law Center. To learn more about the state program, please visit www.sccamrs.org.

The prospective candidate must have a minimum of 5-year clinical experience, administrative proficiency, and possess outstanding leadership and communication skills. The applicant will have an academic faculty appointment with USCSOM. The physician will have the opportunity to also serve as the Director of the Prisma Health-Midlands Child Abuse Pediatrics division.

SCCAMRS is affiliated with Prisma Health-Midlands Department of Pediatrics and its freestanding Children’s Hospital. The Department has a record of academic achievement and provides education and clinical supervision to medical students, physician assistant students, pediatric and other primary specialties’ residents. For almost all of its 35 years, the Department of Pediatrics has been recognized as the best teaching clinical department within the USC School of Medicine.

Columbia is the state capital with a diverse population and a wide range of cultural amenities due to USC’s 30,000 students. In addition to having an affordable cost of living, it is very family friendly with good schools, a revitalized downtown, nationally ranked zoo and children`s museums. Outdoor activities are a premium due to its rivers, 650 miles of Lake Murray shoreline, and state and national parks within 30-minute drives.

The position offers a very generous benefits package including malpractice with tail coverage.

Qualified candidates should submit a letter of interest and CV to Lexy Mason, at Lexy.Mason@prismahealth.org
