The Molecular and Clinical Nutrition Section within the Digestive Diseases Branch of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), National Institutes of Health (NIH) invites applications for the position of Assistant Clinical Investigator from researchers with an MD degree interested in patient-oriented and translational research in nutritional pathophysiology, especially in diabetes and obesity. The position is intended for physicians who have completed their subspecialty training and are interested in developing an independent career in clinical research. The Assistant Clinical Investigator position was established within the NIH intramural program to facilitate the transition from clinical fellowship training to an independent position as a Tenure Track Investigator. The position includes participation as a faculty member in the NIH Inter-Institute Endocrinology Training Program and involves leadership in clinical diabetes research and obesity. The applicant should be board-certified in internal medicine and endocrinology and have prior research experience and scientific accomplishments in nutritional pathophysiology as evidenced by peer-review publications and competitive grant awards. The applicant is expected to develop an independent research program in clinical and translational research with focus on nutritional pathophysiology. The position will be supported with independent resources commensurate with experience and programmatic needs. The Digestive Diseases Branch of NIDDK is located on the main intramural campus of the NIH in Bethesda, Maryland.
