The University of Arizona (UArizona) College of Medicine – Tucson invites applications for the position of Director of the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine. This is an exceptional opportunity for a transformative leader to help grow our current successful initiatives nationally and internationally; expand research initiatives; and mentor a strong cohort of faculty, fellows, students, and staff; work with donors; and further strengthen the mission of the Center. The ideal candidate should have a demonstrated ability to lead productive and collaborative programs, plan strategically for growth and higher impact; excel as a spokesperson for the Center and the field of Integrative Medicine and develop academic programs within the College of Medicine and in collaboration with other departments, Centers, and Colleges at the UArizona, nationally, and internationally.


Position Description


Reporting to the Dean of the College of Medicine as Director of the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine and consulting with Dr. Andrew Weil, the Center’s Founder, the incumbent will work collaboratively with the leaders of the College to further the tripartite mission of achieving excellence in education, clinical care, and research. The Director of the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine will oversee and work with the Director of Operations to manage the Center’s education, research, clinical initiatives, development, and engagement programs, and relationships both within and outside the University, including cultivating and stewarding close relationships with colleagues, donors and other stakeholders.


About the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine


Currently, the Center has the largest fellowship in integrative medicine in the world and licenses its integrative medicine in residency (IMR) program globally to 116 residencies. The Center provides a highly regarded one-month elective in Integrative Medicine as well as a distinction track for medical students in which 15% of the class typically enrolls. For licensed health care professionals, it delivers an Integrative Health educational program and a certification training for coaches. It has multiple national and international partnerships and has entered into collaborative relationships to grow its programs. The Center carries out research in education, clinical outcomes, and basic and translational research programs including the impact of the built environment on health. The Center currently provides care through a small consultative practice in collaboration with Banner Healthcare and has plans for a membership model of care.

Banner University Medicine


In 2015, Banner Health merged with the University of Arizona Health Network to form Banner University Medicine. At the heart of this merger is academic medicine - research, teaching and patient care - across three academic medical centers in Tucson and Phoenix. Banner University Medicine's presence in Tucson includes the Banner - University Medical Center Tucson, Banner - University Medical Center South and the Diamond Children's Medical Center, and dozens of physician offices and clinics across Southern Arizona. Banner - University Medical Center Tucson opened a tower in 2019 featuring 228 new private rooms, for a total of 649, and 20 new operating rooms. The hospital is located near the campus of the University of Arizona and is adjacent to the University of Arizona College of Medicine.
