Appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor or Professor (Clinical Scholar Pathway) will be commensurate with years of experience and accomplishments. The Department of Emergency Medicine provides clinical coverage at six hospital sites within Network.  Although our academic and educational missions extend throughout our Health Network, this opportunity is to provide clinical care to our pediatric patient population at our primary teaching site, the University of Vermont Medical Center (UVMMC).  Educational responsibilities include direct education and supervision of LCOM medical students, UVMMC Emergency Medicine residents, UVMMC Pediatric residents, and other learners throughout a variety of disciplines and healthcare professions.

The University of Vermont Medical Center is the primary teaching hospital of The Larner College of Medicine at The University of Vermont. It is an ACS verified Level 1 Trauma Center for adult and Level 2 Trauma Center for pediatric patients and is a major tertiary referral center for the state of Vermont and upstate New York. With an annual census approaching 70,000 patients with very high acuity, the Emergency Department is known for quality patient care and dedicated teaching faculty.

UVMMC is the home of the University of Vermont Children’s Hospital.  Pediatric Emergency Medicine faculty in the Department of Emergency Medicine engage in the clinical and scholarly mission of the Children’s Hospital with our colleagues in the Department of Pediatrics.  The University of Vermont Children’s Hospital is a regional referral center for pediatric patients and houses the area’s only Level 3 neonatal intensive care unit, a pediatric intensive care unit, and a wide range of pediatric specialties and subspecialties.

Successful candidates will have opportunities and expectations to participate in the academic, educational, and scholarly missions of the UVMHN.  Applicants must be Board Certified or Board Eligible in Pediatric Emergency Medicine through either the American Board of Emergency Medicine or the American Board of Pediatrics pathway, and candidates must be eligible for licensure in the State of New York and Vermont. Although all interested candidates are encouraged to apply, strong preference will be given to candidates with experience in the teaching, clinical, and research activities of academic Pediatric Emergency Medicine.

The University is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their research, teaching, and/or service. Applicants are requested to include in their cover letter information about how they will further this goal.
