Full-time position reporting to the Director of the Queens Forensic Psychiatric Evaluation Court Clinic (Queens FPECC) in the Division of Correctional Health Services.  The Clinic is responsible for conducting fitness-to-proceed evaluations under NYS CPL 730, and presentencing evaluations under NYS CPL 390, for defendants with cases in the Criminal and Supreme Courts of Queens County.  Responsibilities include interviewing defendants, reviewing relevant legal and clinical documents, conducting psychological testing when indicated, forming independent opinions regarding fitness to proceed, writing and submitting reports for the Court in timely fashion, and testifying as needed.  From time to time, responsibilities may include supervision and teaching of psychology and psychiatry trainees.  Minimum qualifications include a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in psychology, strong diagnostic and assessment skills, excellent writing skills, familiarity with a wide range of psychological tests and measures, and good English proficiency.

 

SPECIAL NOTE # = Additional Requirements for Assignment Level II (Effective September 25, 1998)
A. A Doctoral Degree in clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, School Psychology, Forensic Psychology, Clinical Health Psychology or Neuro-Psychology, awarded upon completion of a Doctoral Program in Psychology registered by the New York State Department of Education and designated as licensure qualifying; and

B. One additional year of satisfactory full-time experience, either as a Psychologist for the City of New York, or in a supervisory capacity in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, School Psychology, Forensic Psychology, Clinical Health Psychology or Neuro-Psychology in an approved agency or institution. Employees who complete their Doctoral Degree requirements on or after October 1, 1992 must have at least one year of qualifying experience gained after the completion of all Doctoral Degree requirements; and
In the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation Only
* Effective September 25, 1998, appointments to Assignment Level II require 1) a Ph.D. as outlined in A above; and

2) one year of qualifying experience as outlined in B above.

C. License Requirements for Assignment Level II

1. In the New York City Departments of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and
Alcoholism Services, Police and Fire, and those programs functionally transferred to the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation from the New York City Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Alcoholism Services, a valid license as a Psychologist issued by the New York State Department of Education.

2. In agencies not noted in C. (1.) above, a valid license as a Psychologist issued by the New York State Department of Education within one year of the date of assignment. At the discretion of the appointing agency, the period to obtain the license may be extended for up to six months for employees who fail to obtain the license within one year of their assignment. Once obtained, this license must be maintained for the duration of the assignment.
