Job Description:
To better support requests of projects sponsors, the Intermountain Biorepository team is seeking to contract with a Medical Oncologist for regular support. As the complexity of research requests, and the demand to complete feasibility studies in a timely manner, have increased, it has become clear that the expertise of a dedicated Medical Oncologist is needed to help the research teams. The intent for this role is to have a physician expert embedded as part of the research team so that they can look to this individual to guide feasibility startup and answer questions on projects as they arise. In the past, the team has leaned on a number of internal experts, but we feel that a dedicated resource could allow us to operate much more effectively. The team would need an expert that can provide insights on clinical care pathways and any treatment or testing that might have been performed as part of that care. The overall goal of this role is to help the team maximize the number of samples we can make available and to help find answers faster.
Nature and Scope
The Biorepository research team is split into two groups. The retrospective team makes use of historical samples collected as part of a patient’s clinical care that have entered the Biorepository inventory. The prospective team actively enrolls patients in observational clinical trials. The Medical Oncology resource would support both teams, albeit in somewhat different capacities.
Essential Job Duties
The anticipated activities include:
Standing meeting(s) with the research managers and/or research teams; Ad hoc meetings as needed, and as time/schedules permit; Be a resource on feasibility review to guide sample/patient discovery; Provide guidance on questions that may arise during screening and/or data collection; As needed, meeting with project sponsors to answer questions, including Culmination Bio teams; Connect research team members to other internal or external clinical experts to get questions answered; Review feasibility findings with project stakeholders, including Culmination Bio; and Act as PI, as needed, on minimal risk observational clinical trials.
