Trauma and Surgical Critical Care Medical Director
Baylor Scott and White Medical Center – Hillcrest

Baylor Scott and White Medical Center - Hillcrest is seeking an experienced General Surgeon and Trauma Medical Director within our Central Texas Division of Baylor Scott and White Health. This is a leadership position at our American College of Surgeons (ACS) - verified Level II Trauma Center in Waco, TX.

Candidates must be board certified in General Surgery, with added qualifications in Surgical Critical Care, and with a history of medical director leadership capabilities.

The Opportunity:

  • Serves as the Medical Director of the Trauma Program and the Surgical Critical Care Program and provides, or coordinates, all clinical, administrative, and consulting services for these surgical programs.
  • Candidates must have leadership, clinical, and administrative experience, with a focus on trauma and critical care to ensure quality treatment to all patients of the program. 5 - 7 years of trauma, critical care surgery, and leadership experience is required.
  • Position will provide general oversight and medical quality review of the Trauma, Surgical Critical Care, and Emergency General Surgery Programs.
  • Creates, maintains, and participates in the trauma & back up, surgical critical care, and emergency general surgery call schedules.
  • Supervision of Trauma/Surgical Critical Care staff credentials, and maintenance of Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluations (OPPE), and continuing medical education requirements for State designation and national verification as a trauma center.
  • Participates in trauma education and support of the nursing, allied health, and the general population as instructed by hospital administration.  
  • Works in conjunction with the Trauma Program Manager to ensure compliance with quality programs of the State of Texas and the ACS Committee on Trauma.
  • Guides the trauma program’s participation in the Texas and ACS Trauma Quality Improvement Programs to develop best practices for trauma care by benchmarking outcomes data from the program against State and National benchmarks.

Qualifications:

  • MD/DO degree.
  • Fellowship training in Trauma, Surgical Critical Care or Acute Care Surgery
  • Board Certification by the American Board of Surgery or Osteopathic Board Certification
  • Texas Medical License
  • Fellow of the American College of Surgeons
  • Current in PALS; ATLS; BLS/ACLS
  • Experience in surgical care of trauma patients 5 to 7 years of Leadership experience
