Dean, Sidney Kimmel Medical College

Sidney Kimmel Medical College (SKMC) at Thomas Jefferson University, a premier national doctoral university located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, seeks an innovative and dynamic leader to serve as its next Dean. This is an exceptional opportunity to guide an innovative and long-standing college of medicine to its next stage of evolution and grow its research, education and clinical practice programs while serving as a key executive in the President's cabinet at Jefferson Health.

Founded in 1824, Jefferson Medical College, now Sidney Kimmel Medical College (SKMC), has awarded more than 31,000 medical degrees and has more living graduates than any other private medical school in the nation. It offers both undergraduate medical education programs and innovative joint degree programs to more than 1,000 students each year. The medical college is focused on educating physicians who will form and lead the integrated healthcare delivery and research teams of tomorrow. As one of the oldest institutions of higher education in the nation, SKMC emphasizes the attainment of clinical excellence in its educational programs. It encourages the student body and faculty to commit themselves to lifelong intellectual pursuits.

Jefferson Health now has 18 hospitals, more than 42,700 employees, 8,200 full and part-time students, 3,500 physicians/practitioners, 9,600 nurses and 1,900 paid full-time and part-time faculty. It is the second largest employer in Philadelphia and the largest health system in Philadelphia based on total licensed beds.

Reporting to Mark L. Tykocinski, M.D., President, Thomas Jefferson University, the Dean is the chief academic and administrative officer for SKMC. This crucial leadership position is responsible for the continued growth and impact of the medical enterprise for the University, and offers a platform for an outstanding executive to build on the legacy of innovative leadership in medical education, cutting-edge research and clinical care. The Dean of SKMC will also serve as the President of Jefferson University Physicians (JUP), the faculty practice plan, and in that role is the academic leader of the health system with a key leadership role in guiding strategy, health system clinical program development, and clinical innovation.

Candidates should have demonstrated leadership in building upon comprehensive medical research and educational programs, enhancing DEI and administrative leadership (including experience as a dean, chair, senior associate dean, center/institute director or comparable position) in a complex academic medical environment. Candidates should also have superior communication and collaboration skills; strong fiscal and management acumen; the ability to fundraise; and an unwavering dedication to students, faculty and staff.

All expressions of interest and applications (including an updated Curriculum Vitae and a letter of interest) should be sent to Kim Smith, Aaron Mitra, Clarence Braddock, M.D. and Megan Welch via email to mwelch@wittkeiffer.com.
