Medical Director (Contractual)

Southwest Michigan Behavioral Health (SWMBH) is a $340 million governmental entity managing multiple Michigan Department of Health and Human Services benefits management contracts and business lines over an eight-county region in Southwest Michigan. Our mission is to provide “A Quality Life in the Community for all”.

SWMBH is currently looking for a Medical Director. This is a part-time flexible work position with the possibility of being a fully remote contract. The Medical Director provides medical supervision and oversight for the Prepaid Inpatient Health Plan (PIHP). This position provides medical expertise and consultation, as required, to promote the highest quality and medically necessary care and to ensure evidence-based practices are available to the PIHP’s members.  This position could potentially be fully remote.  

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Medical Degree or DO Degree with psychiatry as a specialty. Unrestricted licensure at the independent practice level is required; must possess and maintain all certifications, authorization, and licenses required by Federal and State laws and regulations to practice in the State of Michigan. Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) is preferred. Knowledge of the statutory, contractual, and regulatory requirements of a PIHP is required. Previous work within a public mental health setting with a strong commitment to community-based services is preferred. Experience dealing with health insurance and managed care plans in a private practice or as a member of a hospital staff or public healthcare organization is preferred.
