Carilion Clinic is seeking Physicians who want to provide top-notch care in an environment where patient care and patient outcomes are of utmost importance. We want individuals who are passionate about teaching and truly enjoy passing their knowledge and experience to future generations of physicians. We strive to provide you with a work environment where financial and administrative worries are minimal, thus allowing you to focus and enjoy what you do daily.

Carilion Clinic s expanding Pulmonary and Critical Care Section is seeking 3 additional Pulmonary and Critical Care physicians for its Roanoke practice. While most of the time will be spent on clinical duties, you will be working with residents and fellows and therefore deeply involved in their training. A varied array of pathology provides an excellent set-up for teaching and for professional personal growth. We are part of an ACGME accredited Pulmonary and Critical Care fellowship which has 12 fellows, and we are starting a Critical Care fellowship in July 2022, which will have 4 fellows. Academic conferences are held every week and all attendings are encouraged to participate. These provide for CME-MOC points and ensure all faculty stays up to date. We have also created a rotation schedule that allows our attendings ample opportunity to provide teaching at the bedside and with didactic lectures. Further our partnership with The Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine allows us to perform research and further academic growth, with all our faculty holding appointments at the medical school and participating in diverse related committees.

Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital is the second largest hospital in the state and a level 1 trauma center with over 800 beds. With access to modern technology our subspecialty critical care units provide advanced care to the sickest patients even with availability of rescue therapies such as ECMO. A large Pulmonary Consult service makes for a dynamic rounding experience as it routinely encounters interesting diagnostic dilemmas with a varied array of pathology. Our section also runs AASM accredited Sleep Centers throughout the region performing over 4000 studies every year.

Our Section is formed by a diverse and multicultural group which we have come to call our extended family. The group is very collegial and well-integrated and not only functions well at work but has multiple out of work social interactions. This dynamic has allowed us for continued growth and excellent physician retention.

As a physician lead organization, we have direct input into shaping the future of our operations and how to best integrate these with our group. The Section Chief works closely with the Chair of Medicine to advocate for the Pulmonary and Critical Care Faculty to ensure all needs are being met and to facilitate the clinical and academic growth of everyone.

Southwest Virginia provides an excellent environment for a peaceful and fulfilling life experience. Roanoke is the larger city in the region and has diverse activities and very good schools. For those that like sightseeing and outdoors activities, this is a hard to match area. Virginia s Blue Ridge Mountains with its parkway are spectacular areas for those that like hiking and biking. We boast one of the hardest marathons in the country, the Foot Levelers Blue Ridge Marathon and Carilion Clinic sponsors and Ironman competition each year. Hunting is also abundant in the area and the close proximity to lakes and rivers (less than a 45-minute drive) welcomes those that like water activities, including fishing.

Additionally, cultural activities are plentiful, with local orchestras and theaters, museums and a large convention center that hosts national and international artists routinely. The region provides for excellent and diverse cuisines to include classic American and New Orleans cooking, French, Italian, Indian, Brazilian, Peruvian, Mexican, Thai, Chinese and Vietnamese food to name some. There are also multiple festivals that come to Roanoke, to include the Greek festival, Indian festival and the Craft Beer festival. A growing number of breweries with entertainment by local artists also provides for an excellent social venue.

Finally, a lack of air pollution, traffic and a peaceful community with excellent schools and healthcare provides for an excellent place to raise a family. An excellent pay to cost-of-living ratio allows you to grow professionally without financial concerns.
