Responsibilities

MAJOR DUTIES

1. Serves as a specialist in the field of Occupational Medicine assigned to the Preventive Medicine Department with remote duty at a free-standing Occupational Health Clinic on an AMC installation. Employee is responsible for diagnosis and treatment of medical problems referred to the Occupational Health Clinic as outlined below:

a. Serves as Medical Director Clinical Coordinator for the Pueblo Chemical Depot (PCD)Occupational Health Program. Responsible for coordinating evaluation of all Occupational Health requirements to include physical examinations, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests and x-rays, ordering ancillary testing, specialty consultation and follow-up as needed. Reviews records for quality and completeness, and for entry of clinical data into the patient's Medical Records. Serves as Medical Response Team Leader for PCD and may be required to perform the same duties at the Utah Chemical Depots. Protects employees against health hazards in their work environment.

b. Orders and interprets diagnostic tests and x-rays, ancillary tests, and arranges for specialty consultation as needed. Clears prospective employees either for full duties or limited duties as medically indicated and facilitates and insures the suitable placement of individuals based on the characteristics of the jobs of employees serviced and, according to their physical capacities, mental and emotional makeup, in work in which they can perform with an acceptable degree of efficiency without endangering their own health and safety or that of their fellow employees. Assures adequate medical care, diagnosis and rehabilitation of the occupationally ill and injured and encourages personal health maintenance. Orders and interprets laboratory and radiological tests necessary to make appropriate diagnoses. Requests consultations as determined necessary. Establishes and maintains a working relationship with local medical facilities referring patients to such facilities or the personal physician of the employees as dictated by clinic limitations.

c. Employee has professional and administrative responsibility for the maintenance of an Occupational Health Program for civilian and military personnel at the depot. Serves as Medical Advisor to the Commander of PCD, and as a member of the Executive Board, Safety Board, Chemical Surety Board, and other boards and or committees as appropriate.

d. Responsible for continuity of care for all patients seen at the clinic, ensuring that professional standards and ethics are maintained by staff personnel. Coordinates clinic programs elements with the Chief of Preventive Medicine, to include industrial hygiene, medical entomology and environmental sanitation. Serves as Physician for the Occupational Health Program at PCD as well as the primary consultant to the PCD Commander, Chemical Surety Office and all Certifying Officials for the Personnel Reliability Program. Also serves as the primary Occupational Health Program consultant to Evans Army Community Hospital, Department of Preventive Medicine, ensuring correct diagnosis and treatment, for all Occupational Health Clinic matters pertaining to the PCD Occupational Health Programs. Develops an extensive occupational health program for the Depot and supported units. Administers pre-employment, annual, or periodic physical examinations for employees, as required in the Occupational Health Clinic including those in medical surveillance programs for medical hazards to include mustard agent. Performs disability retirement and physical fitness examinations. Serves as the Medical Response Team Leader. When required, performs Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS). Provides emergency care for contractors as neccesary

2. Performs a range of medical duties within the clinic covering general practice. Examines patients and makes diagnosis and administers appropriate treatment. The majority of patients are ambulatory and respond quickly to treatment such as head colds, sinus difficulties, simple allergies and skin diseases, indigestion, suturing minor cuts, draining abscesses, etc. Orders and interprets laboratory tests and x-rays necessary to complete medical facts on the cases such as blood counts, urinalyses, sedimentation rates, chest x-rays, electrocardiograms, etc. Consults with specialists when assistance is required in determining the correct diagnosis or treatment. May be required to perform these same duties at any Preventive Medicine responsible clinic area to include MEDDAC, Fort Carson and the activities in Utah.

3. Supervises employees within the Occupational Health Clinic, to include a Physician's Assistant. Assigns, directs, reviews and evaluates work of subordinates. Plans and carries out training and development of subordinate employees. Plans, schedules and coordinates work for the clinic. Resolves technical and administrative problems. Approves or disapproves leave requests. Hears and resolves complaints. Refers grievances and complaints not resolved to the supervisor. Effects minor disciplinary actions. Periodically reviews job descriptions of subordinates for accuracy, adequacy and need for position.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

US Citizenship required

Board Certified/Eligible

Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from a school in the United States or Canada approved by a recognized accrediting body in the year of the applicants graduation. [A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school that provided education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States may be demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) (or a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country).

Candidates must have a permanent, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
