Overview

This position is located at the Fort Belvoir Community Hospital, Fort Belvoir, VA

Fort Belvoir is home to the United States INSCOM and ARCYBER and elements of ten other Army major commands; nineteen different agencies and direct reporting units of the Department of Army; eight elements of the U.S. Army Reserve and the Army National Guard; and twenty-six Department of Defense agencies. Also located here are the 249th Engineer Battalion (Prime Power), the U.S. Army Prime Power School, a Marine Corps detachment, a U.S. Air Force activity, U.S. Army Audit Agency, and an agency from the Department of the Treasury. Medical malpractice liability insurance is not required for federal civilian healthcare providers as they are covered by the Federal Tort Claims Act (28 U.S.C. § 1346(b)) while acting within the scope of their employment.

Responsibilities

As a Physician (Hospitalist) you will:

Serves as an expert and consultant on Internal Medicine.
Performs highly responsible duties in the advanced examination, diagnosis, and treatment of patients who are referred from outlying facilities and the local area. Examines and conducts thorough studies of patients presenting medical management problems.

Participates as an integral attending physician in the Internal Medicine and Transitional residency education program. Guides, instructs, and trains medical interns and residents in internal medicine, as well as interns in other specialties in aspects of internal medicine which relate to their area. Trains physicians from other hospitals, medical students from universities, and other professional personnel as required.

Acts as Director of Internal Medicine, Inpatient Services. Duties include orienting new physician staff to the inpatient service and educating on key inpatient medicine processes and policies. Orients and trains new physician staff on documentation with the inpatient medical record (Essentris). Provides the monthly brief to physicians and residents, outlining pertinent issues and processes to ensure quality care, appropriate documentation, and an outstanding environment for academic teaching. Assists the academic committee with inpatient medicine training processes and policies. Manages the annual schedule by working with all services within DOM to ensure appropriate ward attending coverage. Provides oversight of all physician-led performance improvement projects for inpatient services, while acting as the Performance Improvement representative (for inpatient services) at the WRAMC Quality Outcome Committee conferences.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

US Citizenship required

Board Eligible/ Certified in Internal Medicine

Must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
