Welcome to Presidio of Monterey, home of the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center. Located in picturesque Monterey County on California's Central Coast, approximately 85 miles south of San Francisco and 50 miles from the Silicon Valley. With historic ties to the Spanish colonial era, the Presidio of Monterey as U.S. military installation dates to July 7, 1846 when Commodore Sloat landed his troops unopposed in Monterey during the Mexican-American War and first raised the U.S. flag in Alta California, claiming its territories for the United States. Monterey is the last Presidio in California to have an active military installation.

Responsibilities

Duties:

The supervisor provides broad instructions on policy, program requirements, objectives, and procedures. Employee is expected to work independently as a staff Pediatrician and perform assigned duties within parameters of directives and policies as provided. Exercises independent judgment with full responsibility for professional diagnosis, treatment, referral and disposition of patients in accordance with methods and practices of the medical profession and organization's established administrative policies. Responsible for management of examination, diagnosis, prevention, and appropriate medical treatment. Performance is reviewed periodically for compliance with established policies and procedures and for adherence to basic principles and ethics of the medical profession.

1. Serves as a Physician (Pediatrics). Provides medical care to eligible beneficiaries, conducts physical examinations of infants and children, determines need for X-ray examinations and clinical laboratory tests and interprets examination findings and test results, prescribes and administers appropriate treatment for the patient's needs and conditions, provides consultation, performs emergency treatment in cases of serious injury or illness, and recommends arrangements for hospitalization and surgery. Performs detailed assessment of the health status and health maintenance of the individual patients taking into account the patients' family environment. Refers patients when indicated for diagnostic testing and specialty consultation. Ensures and provides access to care for the enrolled beneficiary population with a mixture of routine/health maintenance and urgent care/same day appointments.

2. Supervises Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs). Assigns work to subordinates based on priorities, difficulty of assignments, and the capabilities of employees. Give advice, counsel, and instruct employees on both work and administrative matters. Develop performance plans and evaluate work performance of subordinate employees. Interview candidates for subordinate positions; recommend hiring, promotion, or reassignments. Effect minor disciplinary measures, such as warnings and reprimands, recommending other action in more serious cases. Identify developmental and training needs of employees; provide and/or arrange for needed development and training.

3. Answers telephonic and other remote media inquiries from patients and provides appropriate advice and instructions and provides follow up care. May perform telephonic after hours call shared with other providers. May provide care to adult population due to unique mission requirements such as excess adult care needs during cold and flu season.

4. Completes medical record documentation with accuracy, timeliness, and thoroughness. Participates in clinic and clinical staff meetings and Continuing Medical Education (CME) conferences. Participates in Primary Care Clinic Quality Improvement through periodic chart and procedure audits, CME and quality assurance activities as assigned, and participates in monthly training sessions. Teaches and provides consultation to other health care providers as assigned.

PERFORMS OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED.

Qualifications

US Citizenship required

Must possess and maintain board certification in Pediatrics

Must possess and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States

Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from a school in the United States or Canada approved by a recognized accrediting body in the year of the applicants graduation. [A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school that provided education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States may be demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) (or a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country).
