National Cancer Institute (NCI)
Division of Cancer Treatment and Diagnosis (DCTD)
Cancer Therapy Evaluation Program (CTEP)

Position Description:
The Division of Cancer Treatment and Diagnosis (DCTD), National Cancer Institute (NCI), is seeking Physicians to fill vacancies in the Developmental Therapeutics Clinic (DTC), Office of the Director (OD), Clinical Investigations Branch (CIB) and Investigational Drug Branch (IDB) in Cancer Therapy Evaluation Program (CTEP).

The Division of Cancer Treatment and Diagnosis (DCTD) takes prospective detection and treatment leads, facilitates their paths to clinical application, and expedites the initial and subsequent large-scale testing of new agents, biomarkers, imaging tests, and other therapeutic interventions (radiation, surgery, immunotherapy) in patients. The DCTD has nine major programs that work together to bring unique molecules, diagnostic tests, and therapeutic interventions from the laboratory bench research to the patient bedside.

The mission of the Cancer Therapy Evaluation Program (CTEP) is to improve the lives of cancer patients by finding better ways to treat, control and cure cancer. The CTEP accomplishes this mission by funding an extensive national program of cancer research and by sponsoring clinical trials to evaluate new anti-cancer agents, with a particular emphasis on translational research to elucidate molecular targets and mechanisms of drug effects.

The Clinical Investigations Branch (CIB) implements and oversees adult and pediatric cancer clinical trials portfolios, focusing on the incorporation of new molecular characterization and novel therapeutic strategies into clinical trials for both adults and children with cancer.

The Investigational Drug Branch (IDB) oversees a large portfolio of novel cancer agents in an innovative investigational experimental therapeutics program.

The goal of the NCI Developmental Therapeutics Clinic (DTC) in the Office of the Director (OD) is to develop new treatments for patients with advanced cancer through novel early phase clinical trials. Each year patients from around the world with cancers that have relapsed after standard treatment visited the DTC for consultation about participation in early phase treatment trials conducted at the NIH. The DTC participates in the Experimental Therapeutics Clinical Trials Network (ETCN) and supports the work of DCTD.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens. These are full-time Federal Government positions, located in Bethesda and Rockville, Maryland. Compensation for these positions is commensurate with the individual’s qualifications and experience, as permitted with Federal Government appointments.
