The Carle Illinois College of Medicine at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and Carle Health System are seeking an academic surgical oncologist to be a faculty member of the Carle Illinois College of Medicine and to help grow the surgical oncology programs at Carle Health and the Carle Cancer Institute in Urbana, Illinois.

Candidates record of experience and accomplishment should be at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor and have a clinical focus on the surgical management of patients with upper GI malignancies (pancreas, liver, biliary tract, stomach) and soft tissue sarcomas. Training and interest in minimally invasive surgery are preferred. Candidates are required to hold an MD or DO, be board certified in surgery and fellowship trained in surgical oncology, have subspecialty training, and possess excellent interpersonal skills for program building. Candidates should also have a track record of federally funded research and leading research teams. Highly qualified candidates may be considered for an endowed appointment as a Phil and Ann Sharp Scholar in Cancer Research. Exceptionally qualified candidates may be considered for the Phil and Ann Sharp Chair in Cancer Research. Additional opportunities may be available for candidates with leadership experience as a Program Leader or as an Associate Director within the Cancer Center at Illinois.

This is a 12-month, 100% time academic, tenure or tenure-track appointment with the University of Illinois, Carle Illinois College of Medicine. Effort will be 50% clinical and 50% academic/research with paid protected time for research, a generous startup research package, and a competitive compensation package. The candidate will be supported to develop relationships and collaborate with the existing researchers at Carle and at the University of Illinois, and, to attract intramural and extramural funding, and develop hypothesis driven research protocols. Carle Health is a vertically integrated Health System which includes an expanding network of 5 hospitals currently with plans to expand to 8 in the upcoming year. The candidate would practice at the flagship Carle Foundation Hospital in a multi-disciplinary setting with a weekly Upper GI Tumor Board, outpatient clinics at Carle Cancer Institute in Urbana and strong support from Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Advanced GI Endoscopy and Interventional Radiology with an opportunity for multidisciplinary collaboration for management of liver cancers. The position would also be supported for call coverage from Carle General Surgery Service at Carle Foundation Hospital, which includes a well-established general surgery residency program.

The Carle Cancer Institute has a strong clinical cancer research profile with a National Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP) Grant continuously funded by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) since 1983 with and more than 100 open clinical trials for cancer patients in East Central Illinois. The Carle Cancer Institute is a pillar of Carle Health's Stephens Family Clinical Research Institute which provides existing opportunities to support investigator-initiated studies.

This is a 12-month, 100% time academic, tenure or tenure-track faculty appointment with the University of Illinois, Carle Illinois College of Medicine. The salary for this position will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. The preferred start date will be May 16, 2023.
