BACKGROUND:
The University of Mississippi Medical Center played a pivotal role in our understanding of cardiac physiology. The department of cardiothoracic surgery and its surgeons have a strong history as well famously performing the first human lung transplantation in 1963. UMMC’s adult cardiac and thoracic programs are clinically strong, with each performing the full spectrum of surgery in their respective fields.
The congenital cardiac surgery service performs the full spectrum of congenital surgery from neonatal through adult congenital heart surgery.
We are looking for a congenital cardiac surgeon at the assistant or associate Professor level capable of performing the full spectrum of congenital cardiac surgery. The candidate should have sufficient VAD/transplant experience to fully participate in all aspects of the pediatric cardiac transplant program.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The candidate will participate in all aspects of the congenital cardiac surgery service as both an assistant and primary surgeon. Academic rank will be commensurate with experience. The candidate will participate in the clinical and didactic education, training and development of Surgery, Cardiothoracic surgery, and Pediatric Cardiology residents through service rotation activities and conferences.
CLINICAL ROLE:
- Serve as a congenital cardiothoracic surgeon within the Department of Surgery’s Division of Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery with an active inpatient and outpatient practice Take a leadership role developing clinical protocols within the Children’s Heart Center alongside colleagues from other specialties within the Heart Center Participate in the clinical and didactic education, training and development of cardiothoracic surgery, general surgery, and pediatric cardiology residents through service rotation and conferences Lead and participate in Quality Improvement initiatives within the program in collaboration with other services comprising the Heart Center to continue to improve the care we deliver to the children and families of Mississippi
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Board certified or eligible in Thoracic Surgery
Minimum 3-5 years of experience as a clinical congenital surgeon
Valid unrestricted medical license to practice in the State of Mississippi
Valid Drug Enforcement Administration Certificate
