Position Description

The Department of Medicine at McGill University invites applications for a full-time position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor as a member of the Contract Academic Staff (Clinical). The professorial rank will be determined according to the candidate’s qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will become the Chief of the Division of Rheumatology at the Jewish General Hospital (JGH).  Applicants are encouraged to simultaneously apply for the position of McGill Director of Rheumatology, although this is not required.  These positions do not confer eligibility for tenure.
 
The JGH Division of Rheumatology is home to outstanding clinicians, educators and clinician researchers, each committed to the pursuit of excellence in clinical care, medical education and research. We provide general and highly specialized rheumatology consultations and follow-up, with special emphasis on scleroderma, inflammatory myopathies and rheumato-oncology.  Our researchers have created and oversee large databases and biobanks in our areas of distinctive expertise, pursuing world-class research.  There are the databases of the Canadian Scleroderma Research Group (CSRG), the Canadian Inflammatory Muscle Study (CIMS) and the Montreal Immune-Related Adverse Events (MIRAE) Biobank. 

The Jewish General Hospital is one of McGill’s major teaching hospitals and home to the Lady Davis Institute for Medical Research (LDI). The LDI is one of the most productive hospital-based research institutes in Canada and Quebec. It has more than 200 researchers, 80 research associates and 250 trainees. Special areas of interest include Clinical Epidemiology, Cancer, Molecular and Regenerative Medicine and Psychosocial Aspects of Disease. Over the years, the LDI has been remarkably successful in attracting outstanding investigators with national and international reputations.  The Division of Rheumatology is one of 20 divisions within the JGH Department of Medicine. In addition to stimulating clinical work, division members have excellent opportunities for intra- and inter-institutional collaborative endeavors, with protected time for scholarly activities.

The successful candidate will be an inspirational leader who, as Chief of the Division of Rheumatology, will draw on strong interpersonal skills to promote collaboration, and inspire best practices and innovation. The preferred candidate will have a history of academic leadership that demonstrates the ability to foster excellence in teaching, patient care, and research. The successful candidate will lead the clinical and educational missions of the Division, promote independent and collaborative research and fulfill administrative responsibilities at the institutional, university, regional and provincial levels, where appropriate.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Candidates must hold an MD degree and must have completed subspecialty training in Rheumatology;
  • Candidates must be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent) and be eligible for licensure in Quebec and certified by the Collège des médecins du Québec;   
  • Candidates should have strong leadership qualities and a proven academic track-record in medical scholarship or in basic and/or clinical research; Candidates must have experience in clinical service and training of students, residents, and fellows;
  • All candidates must be fluent in English with a working knowledge of French. They should be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families and health care professionals.
