MEDICAL DIRECTOR - CLINICAL TRIALS OFFICE

The Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute

Hartford HealthCare (HHC), the most comprehensive integrated healthcare system in Connecticut, seeks a Medical Oncologist with demonstrated leadership experience to serve as Medical Director of the Clinical Trials Office. The incumbent will work in a dyad partnership with the Administrative Director of the Clinical Trials Office and report to the Cancer Institute Physician-in-Chief.

The clinical trials enterprise manages over 50 therapeutic trials across medical, radiation and surgical studies. In 2014, HHC and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) formed a strategic partnership whose mission is to accelerate the transfer of knowledge from academic medical centers to community healthcare. An integral component of this partnership is access to the MSK clinical trials portfolio. Additional trials are opened directly with industry or as a NRG member site through the NCI National Clinical Trials Network. A dedicated Innovations Unit supports phase 1 studies. Clinical trials are selected by our Disease Management Teams for scientific interest and clinical relevance and supported by the Clinical Trials Office staffed with 40 FTEs. In addition, biomarker, cancer care delivery, surgical and radiation studies are active at the Cancer Institute.

The Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute is comprised of a team of more than 40 medical oncologists who are local and national leaders in their fields. Many of our physicians have advanced sub-specialty training, and are backed by a full team of interdisciplinary medical and surgical specialists across the system of care. The institute is structured around interdisciplinary disease management teams and clinical councils that establish standards of care, develop our clinical trials portfolio and foster program development to address clinical needs. The mission of the Cancer Institute is to foster the delivery of cancer care that is equitable and patient-centered within a healthcare system dedicated to quality improvement and clinical research. The Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute sees more than 7,000 analytic cases/year.

Qualifications for the position include:
  • Medical Oncologist with at least 5 years of leadership experience in clinical trials operations. Advanced degrees in health administration, business, public health or quality are highly desirable.
  • Eligible for licensure in the state of Connecticut
  • Demonstrated experience practicing patient centered, evidence based clinical care within a multidisciplinary team model of care
  • Intellectual curiosity to build a model of community based oncology care that is scholarly, scalable and equitable
  • Sub-specialization in medical oncology
  • Commitment to receiving and providing mentoring to support personal and professional growth
