Salvo Health is a new approach to help millions of Americans facing chronic health conditions, centered on specialty medicine through virtual-first clinics. Our patients are members for our “whole patient” care teams and app-based care, with a direct-to-consumer subscription model, no insurance required.
Salvo is backed by leading health care investors from innovators like Livongo, Ro, Ginger, Forward, Brightline, Tia, and others.
Salvo Heath’s care draws on expertise from Board-certified specialty physicians, registered dietitians, psychologists, and health coaches who deliver wraparound support on a multi-month journey to better health. Salvo is the first to bring a scalable and tech-enabled, functional medicine-style approach to these chronic conditions, going beyond treating only the symptoms in order to identify and address the root causes of chronic illness.
About The Role
Salvo is looking for a licensed physician to provide remote medical care to patients via video visit and asynchronous patient communication. In this role, you will create, implement, and oversee personalized patient care plans. This will include reviewing patient intake questionnaires, conducting video visits, ordering diagnostic tests such as blood work and stool testing, as well as prescribing – and monitoring response to – both prescription medications and supplements when clinically appropriate.
Salvo believes that the most inclusive and equitable culture makes for a better business, so we welcome diverse candidates for this key role. A core mission is to increase access to better and more convenient care for patients, especially among Millennial and GenZ women whose complaints are often not taken seriously by the existing medical system. Many of our patients struggle to get access to the right doctor given the shortage of specialists, and often their doctors are not trained in the relevant areas of behavioral medicine, nor have the financial incentives to give daily support for follow-up care. Our marketing voice must deeply understand what our target audience is living with daily.
What you will do
Conduct initial video visit following review of comprehensive patient intake questionnaire.
Under the guidance of Salvo’s clinical protocols, make provisional diagnosis and formulate initial care plan including diagnostic testing, prescription medications, evidence-based supplements, personalized diet recommendations, and behavioral or mind-body therapies when appropriate.
Conduct follow-up asynchronous telehealth visits, incorporating data from in-app symptom tracking and follow-up patient assessment questionnaires, and modify treatment plan as needed, pending patient’s response to initial treatment plan.
Review results of diagnostic testing including blood tests, stool testing, and breath testing, and modify treatment plan as needed based on testing results and in line with Salvo’s clinical protocols. Identify red flag symptoms and results and refer to local providers for in-person evaluation when needed.
Maintain complete and accurate records of care and medical decision making in the electronic health record.
Communicate with other care team members including health coaches, care coordinators, and customer service representatives in order to provide responsive multidisciplinary care.
Respond to patients’ questions through the member app as needed, with attention to validating and addressing the patient’s concerns in a timely and sensitive manner.
Attend departmental meetings such as weekly check-ins with Medical Director, monthly clinical rounds, and twice yearly clinical summit, as well as interdepartmental meetings such as Salvo “All-hands.”
Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
License to practice medicine in NY, MI, TX or CA and willingness to obtain additional state medical licenses (at Salvo’s expense)
Existing credentials with leading health plans preferred
5+ years of clinical experience with 2+ years post training preferred
Board certification in family medicine, internal medicine, or gastroenterology
Familiarity with care delivery via telemedicine preferred
Experience evaluating and treating digestive complaints preferred but not required
Openness to learning about and employing functional medicine principles to patient care, including the use of a comprehensive patient history and focused diagnostic testing to identify the root cause of illness
Passionate about providing an exceptional patient experience
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
